What do you make of this credit card scam???
My brother owns a computer store. Last week a bunch of Somalian guys come in with each about two credit cards. They want to buy a bunch of laptops and desktops and my brother doesn't think twice (stupid, I know). Few cards were declined but a few others went through. Transactions done and stuff was ordered, they only took one laptop with them, the rest was on backorder.
After talking to me I tell my brother to check all the stuff, call police, credit card service to figure shit out. Turns out their IDs were fake (shocker!). Next thing we know we get a letter saying the charges were charged back by the issuing bank. So the guys come in, we tell them they ain't getting shit and they should contact their bank. They go away saying they will fix it.
My thought at this point was, they know they've been made, they'll run like hell and won't come back...
Next day they're in the store again, saying the charges were all withdrawn from their cc's and saying they want their stuff. At this point I'm wondering whether they are just stupid or maybe they have some other plan.
Next thing we know they are all understanding, saying we will definitely get our cash and even telling us they will bring back the laptop they already took so we can keep it until we get the money.
I don't get it, wtf is their end game? They think they can gain our trust? Mind you this is all after my brother told them the card was issued in another country, their IDs are fake and that the police is investigating *some* credit card fraud case in the neighbourhood.
What's your take?
