Should Happy Meals be banned?

Should Happy Meals be outlawed? Apparently a group of lawmakers in California think so.

This week, in a 3-2 vote, they made it illegal to sell meals containing a toy incentive in Santa Clara County.

Proponents said the little toys fast food restaurants package in their kids meals should be banned because kids are being "enticed to eat unhealthy food" to get the toys.

No. Instead, parents should learn the word "no."

Making little Timmy cry once is not going to hurt him. In fact, it's a wonderful childhood lesson. Make Timmy fucking cry!

If you ban my Cap'n Crunch I might kill a mofo.

Spunky 05-30-2010 09:50 PM

There wasn't a toy incentive when I was growing up but all the kids related to the clown and wanted to eat there also it's a cheap meal for busy single moms

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 05-30-2010 09:52 PM

beat timmy's ass around the block, then ask him if he still wants his fucking happy meal...

Maybe parents should consider buying a bunch of shitty ass 20 cent toys and give one to their kid every time said kid eats some healthy food meal they put in front of the kid. They'd save money, kid would eat healthier, win win.

Jarmusch 05-30-2010 10:34 PM

Kids would still eat happy meals if they didn't come with a toy.

BobG 05-30-2010 10:38 PM

No, because I'm against big government. Let them eat themselves to death.

I agree totally....:thumbsup

My friend recently told me the doctor told her that her kid was naughty due to the chemicals in soda...candy etc ...bullshit l said to her ..he is just naughty !

Seems that parents have to consult on everything now and if the answer comes from a specialist and sounds that they are not to blame...they are cool with it .

I would rephrase it as " it's a cheap junk food fix to keep the kid happy for busy single moms". :Oh crap .... same applies to couples/kids

Childhood obesity is no joke. Leads to cardiovascular disease and diabetes II in adulthood.

That said, I don't think legislation is the key to solving this very important problem.

Raf1 05-31-2010 02:27 AM

hmm, hard question. The obvious thought is that parents should say "no" to their kids, but the amount of idiot parents around the world amazes me.

AnalProbe 05-31-2010 03:10 AM

I asked little Timmy... he does not agree...

so I will feed him his transfats now...

ban fast food, its killing us slowly but surely, go back to the stone age diet and we will all be much healthier

TheDoc 05-31-2010 03:24 PM

We drive past a MD and my youngest kid will tell me what toy is in the happy meal now.

The food industry needs updated regulations all over and it needs to stop allowing known poisons to be put into our foods.

The golden arches was one of the first logos I was able to point out from my car seat. My parents told me it was that one and Dairy Queen that I used to squeal at and point before I could even say a sentence. Weirdly we didn't even have a tv at the time. I only watched tv at the babysitter's.

I just think that someone that is medically trained (a doctor) that is diagnosing cause and effect with chemically processed shit food and behaviour may, possibly, know more than you do (someone that had a banana in her avatar).

However, I could be totally wrong and in fact you are an expert paediatrician specialising in processed food and chemicals leading to behavioural issues with children.

If so, I can but apologise.

I think that her point was all negative behavior cannot be blamed on secondary sources. The parents need to take responsibility instead of shifting the blame on McDonald's.

As an adult, I absolutely notice the difference in my mood and the way I feel based on the things I consume. I have absolutely no doubt that children are impacted the same way, if not more.

However, banning McDonald's does not fix the issue. If said parent allows their child to get "drugged" on McDonald's food, McDonald's gets banned, said parent will simply take the child somewhere else to get "drugged".

We need things in moderation. I try not to eat fast food more than once every two weeks, and that's at the most. Some people, including kids, eat fast food everyday. Banning fast food does not fix that underlying issue of eating processed crap.

Maybe you miss the point im trying to make......no reason to ban happy meals .

I agree with medical facts but sometimes parents use them to make up for thier lack of skills.........if she listens to the doctor and follows his advice why does she still take him to McDonalds ?????? or are you going to tell me thats healthy and good for him !

Ps...Bananas are very healthy for you...in more ways than one lol.....

Slick 05-31-2010 05:01 PM

The thing is, parents KNOW what kind of food their children are gonna get when they go to a place like McDonalds, so if they don't want them eating, then they shouldn't go.

The thing is, I don't buy my children a Happy Meal because of the toy, I buy it because that's a portion of food that they're gonna eat. It's not like adults buy "Happy Meals" for their kids JUST because the toy and even if they did, what's wrong with that ?? Instead you're gonna buy them a Big Mac extra value meal for your 10 year old child ??
