Build Your Own Solar Panels - Cheap!

I know it this is essentially an infomercial, but for under $50 it is tempting.

Check it out and see what you think.

*note - I have no vested interest in this product - I am just passing on the link...

Is this info free on the net and can be patched together from differing free sources?

$5 submissions 06-07-2010 11:27 AM

Another question: is the energy generation even COMPARABLE to normal solar panels.

$5 submissions 06-07-2010 11:32 AM

I watched the video: $170 per 70 watt panel. Interesting.

fatfoo 06-07-2010 11:34 AM

$50 - now that's cheap.

This reminds me of earthship houses (environmentally friendly houses) that can be built by yourself for only $5,500 a house. You can use tires, pop cans, dirt and recycled materials to build the house.

scarlettcontent 06-07-2010 12:28 PM

wizzart 06-07-2010 12:30 PM

I think this is just a SPAM, but if someone want to risk and pay 50$ please write review

Don't trust Aussies -- or people that can't pronounce solder correctly.

I make cell phone chargers out of those old solar garden lamps..

tranza 06-07-2010 12:47 PM

$50? With no batteries, right?

$5 submissions 06-07-2010 12:55 PM

Man, I thought CHINA was supposed to drop prices rock bottom but solar panels are still expensive... If they made 5KW panels for less than $1000, I'd be on it like white on rice!

cardinalvices 06-07-2010 01:10 PM

Looks like spam to be honest. Too much bullshit, and not too much information.

70 watts is not that bad for a homemade panel. If you make 20 of them you could run a 1400 watt A/C :winkwink:

Try getting the compressor started with that...

With regards to the OP, I guess the reason these DIY panels are so cheap is because you're doing much of the labour yourself.

In Australia DIY probably wouldn't make sense since our government offers rebates for commercial solar installations.

BTW, once you exit the page you get a $27 second chance offer... there... I just saved you $23 :D

Heat source pumps, underground heating, wind generators & solar. They are all trying to do it right but they are all still so expensive compared to fossil fuel :(

On my pool Im going to use a heat source pump which uses compressed air. I am very much wondering about using the soloar panel idea to run the rest of the pool electrics.

Other than that, the size of these homemade solar panels on the roof would be huge to create enough for tumble dryers & overs.
