Why not try something different with "Celebrity Sex Tapes".

Why can't we all switch to DVD sales ONLY with big pre-launches by the sponsor?

Maybe a way to fight the piracy issue is to sale DVD's.

It would work like this :

1. Video is shot/edited and secured so no copies leak out.
2. Webmasters get the promo/launch/ material and advertise the DVD
3. In the fine print : "Please allow up to 90 days delivery" (90 days can be any days)
4. Send confirmation emails immediately when a purchase is made
5. Send a snail mail after 14 days saying "you order is being processed...etc.."
6. after 50 days start actually printing the DVD and sending them out
7. The marketing would be : "Limited quantity Available, order now".

This closes the gap where someone working for the DVD company can pirate it and
keeps it offline until "X" number of sales have been made.

People should be willing to wait for a "Celebrity Tape" and we should be making sales
why they are waiting.

* This was a quick thought so maybe there are some holes here. What do you think?

Depending on how much money was involved, someone would probably find out where those original copies are and steal them and sell it for profit and fuck up the entire thing for everyone.

Wasn't there rumors a while back about a Britney tape and her house ended up being robbed days/weeks later? Imagine everyone knowing a tape exists months before.

Decent idea though.

Edit: also, if there was such a big buzz around a sex tape that people knew they had to wait months to see, think about the people in control of securing the original copies that would get drunk or something and brag about how they already saw it and show it to their buddies etc.. and it would end up leaked by some idiot or stolen when these people tell their friends and their friends tell their friends.

I like the idea but from my very limited experience of dvd mail order the customer wants it asap..im not sure if they would wait very long ,in fact with more and more customers using instant download for everything its a major roadblock ! ..other than that it would be perfect....:)

Added :

I guess you could do a pre - launch ..grab as many orders as possible before shipping as you mentioned now I think more on it..... would be interesting for someone like Vivid to try it as they have sales data from past launches.

Wonder how much they lost on the Kendra tape..it must be huge $$$$ ..its everywhere.

promo launch material will be used to send traffic to the "celebrity niche" sites...even more loss for the actual legal content owners :2 cents:

You hit on the key point exactly. The tape has to be secured.

I mean, use a crew that is bound by contract, trusted and sworn by blood!
They will understand that this is how they will keep this crew job!

Use encryption and pass words on the video files etc...

Maybe, but since the DVD is not even released yet the content is still protected.
We can "re-launch" after the rip offs are exposed. :1orglaugh

Question ?

Do people who share/rip/pirate or whatever these tapes ever have any intention though of purchasing whatever the tactic used ? my feeling is they would simply sit and wait no matter how long it took for them to watch it for "Free".?

hence the eventual collapse of the online adult industry as a whole...the kids in the 4th grade today who know how to send a sattlelite to the moon from there ipod wont be paying for porn in 14 years...as the years go by more and more people will know how to access what they are looking for..with or without visa and mc:winkwink:

nobody wants to wait 90 days, it's all about instant gratification.

Jakez 06-10-2010 09:41 PM

If you specified like "X Sex Tape to be released X date!" in huge letters on the tour, it miight work in like a viral type of way.

That's where I think "Celebrity tape" makes the difference.

People will wait if the hype is good enough.

People waited before the internet was born with no problem; they still have that ability.
They do it for anything else they want.

Yes, but I'm thinking to not do that and only make the video available through mail DVD.

(DVD/VHS etc...any format really)

If the surfer knows the video will be online on the website on a certain date then
they don't buy yet.

thats what the case would be as mentioned earlier .......:(

I went to a small mainstream seminar once and they discussed piracy and copyright...a few big brand names attended..and they all seemed to agree that in most cases those who buy or rip products ususally are not buyers anyway.

I think its simply 2 camps....Buyers...and Freeloaders....me myself I dont have any ripped software...music.etc but many of my friends have tons of stuff and I dont think they will change attitude for anything.

You all realize that EVERYONE would be charging back after not getting shit in 4 days?

Awesome idea otherwise, lol...

EliteWebmaster 06-11-2010 01:15 AM

DVDS are easier to rip/reencode and redistribute for pirates.

They don't have any patience now. Instant downloading after paying has completely taken away peoples ability to wait for something.
