Got a call from the bank myself 2 weeks ago that someone was trying to buy stuff with it and they blocked it. Then Maurice got his call last week, same thing, then Mike (VideoBox) got his cc abused and then today my brother got his call from the bank.

Now this got me thinking we all went to the Phoenix show last March, big coincidence or are there more people who had their card info scammed who went to the Phoenix show?

:warning

ottopottomouse 06-12-2010 01:47 PM

Lots of credit cards got the info for cloning syphoned off here (UK) at petrol stations.

AdPatron 06-12-2010 01:48 PM

You're probably right.

Hm, that would make sense if Mike went to her to but he didn't.

The Heron 06-12-2010 02:04 PM

Haven't had any problems yet...

Atticus 06-12-2010 02:50 PM

I got a call a week after Phoenix Forum that my Visa card was being used here in Las Vegas. All the charges were reversed and they sent out a new card.

Well 4 cards out of 4 and you all taking the same trip to Phoenix seems to indicate it maybe related...did you all use a certain atm..resturant ..even travel agent as although it points to the show /hotel I guess it could actually have happened at another point in the trip?.

WiredGuy 06-13-2010 12:34 AM

I got a call from Visa Security about 4 days ago with suspicious charges that were all point of purchase. Seems someone replicated my card and was getting advances from casinos on it. Visa cancelled it and refunded the charges no questions asked and fedex'd me a brand new card.
PS: Yes, I also used this card for Phx Forum.

This is happening more in the US too. I either pay cash or use gasoline cards, no more cc's at gas stations.

:Oh crap

The reason I mentioned it was I was part of a group that attended a show ( not phx ) and we all used the same atm inside the hotel...later we got strange charges...that related to the atm corp ( it wasnt the hotel as the atm was contracted out)...so I guess for you now its just pinning down a single point that you know all cards were used at if possible ...Hotel is one point I guess.....can you think of any other place.

My cc was blocked as well and I didnt use the atm inside the hotel. I actually hardly used my cc there because everything was charged on the room.

naughtylaura 06-13-2010 10:15 PM

Same here! The transaction went through on 1st of May so they're chasing it up now, blocked my card & are sending out a new one... I used my card at the hotel (not the atm) & a couple of restaurants and bars... weird that a few people are having the same issue!

icymelon 06-13-2010 11:26 PM

I used my card at the phoenix forum and havent had any issues

Haven't used the atm myself either, I did use it on the hotel bar though.

This was my main corporate card, so I just use it for checkin at hotels, airlines and recurring billing. Very few places I actually swipe this card. Mission Palms was one of them though...

had the same problems after Internext in Jan

Thomas007 06-14-2010 12:58 AM

Our primary Mastercard has also been blocked.
I used the card in Phoenix for the hotel checkin and some of the local restaurants.

The card seems to be cloned, and someone tried using it in China for about USD 2400 in a shop, in their local currency.
Before that. there was 2 small attemps on around 1 USD each.

Thats what Visa told me too. Very small charges and then about $2000 in charges from casinos, point of presence transactions with the actual card that was copied. Visa reversed it instantly too, no questions asked.

k, got another one who got his card blocked last week who also was in Phoenix!

Could it be a rogue employee?

Marie 06-14-2010 03:07 AM

Yes, me too, got blocked last week. Apparently I bought shoes for 1800 euro in Colombia.

HAHA I knew you had an expensive taste!

Roald 06-14-2010 03:28 AM

BTW I sent this thread to Mark, perhaps he can notify the hotel about it.

AdultEUhost 06-14-2010 03:42 AM

Hey Roald,

I just had to block my card last Friday.
I noticed tons of unauthorized transactions when I logged in to online banking.
Shops range from Gamespot, Bath & Body, Sterling Wines & L to Victoria Secrets to Walgreens. Total amount is about 5782 euro (about 7k usd) so they love to shop it seems. Funds should be back in my account somewhere this week the bank told me.

It is a VISA debit card and all sales were POS transactions so they skimmed the card.

Leon

AdultEUhost 06-14-2010 03:45 AM

As far as I can remember I only used the card once at the ATM in the hotel lobby, well actually Jan made the withdrawal for me as I was playing poker and didn't want to leave the table :-)

I personally always try to use the ATM inside a bank, so this is a good reminder :-)

The Heron 06-14-2010 05:46 AM

Just realized I didn't use my cc at the phoenix hotel.

thanks for passing this over to me, well check it out as soon as i get to the office in a bit

Jon Oso 06-14-2010 08:02 AM

That's pretty crazy. I have heard of hotel employees stealing CC info and using the cards to make purchases online to be delivered to the hotel, then another employee will take the delivery of said product and it pretty much vanishes. But if they're actually using swiped cards means someone is selling all the info from the hotel ... If it's all connected to the mission palms not much else you can do but start asking them questions.

Tom_PM 06-14-2010 08:08 AM

Yikes thats crazy, good luck to you all getting it figured out.

People are going to need to load up some pre-paid cards (branded maybe) before each show.

My Big Fat Greek Rest
Best Buy 00010025
Tempe Mission Palm Htl
Cpk Clt 10453421

AdPatron 06-14-2010 11:56 PM

Cancel all your cards.

notime 06-15-2010 04:56 AM

Nope.

Got another one on ICQ claiming the same thing, company cc blocked.

Roald 06-15-2010 05:47 AM

BTW is it me or did this mostly happen to foreigners (aka non USA peeps)?

$tandaman 06-15-2010 07:07 AM

my card is fine so far.. but i'll be watching it closely..

SpongeBub 06-15-2010 07:21 AM

I had a customer get all pissed off at me yesterday because I will only ship to the cc billing address, which is how Paypal requires it in order to guarantee the payment against fraud, chargebacks, etc. He just couldn't understand why I wouldn't ship to another freakin' state! Apparently, he has never heard of shit like this which happens all the time.

96ukssob 06-15-2010 07:34 AM

the fucked up thing with BofA is they have NEVER once put a hold on my card when someone got the number of suspicious activity, but rather anytime I try to use my card at the ATM in Vegas or AC its always blocked and takes hours to get ahold of someone.

FUCK J0EL 06-15-2010 09:27 AM

While I was in Vegas last week for the Summer Forum, Visa called me and mentioned that my CC was being used in Montreal and they saw some Vegas transactions. They had 2 small charges and then while I was on the phone with Visa, my CC go hit for a big amount !
I used that CC in the Mission Palms :(

AdultEUhost 06-15-2010 02:56 PM

too bad ccbill never came back to us or at least reported this to the hotel

Big E 06-15-2010 03:44 PM

Add me to the list - just got contacted by AmEx about charges in NYC.

Used the card to check in at the hotel, at the hotel bar, some local bars.. not sure where it happened but it's clearly something in AZ.

naughtylaura 06-15-2010 07:06 PM

Only one transaction went through on mine... got credited it back today and visa are dealing with it now. Not sure if it's linked to this lot as mine was an internet transaction not point of sale but who knows. My bank always contact me about transactions going through in us dollars, even the ones that go out monthly for my server...but weirdly they didn't question this one and let it through. Typical! I didn't use the ATM in the hotel if that helps xx

Well give them a bit, besides that there is not a whole lot more they can do than letting the hotel know they got a rat.
