Iphone 4G and the Video Conferencing.... How much of a toll will it take on ATT's networks??
Unless you are on Wifi using it correct me if Ii am wrong but wont this feature alone really fuck thing up even more for att's "3g" cough cough
|
At this point you MUST be on wifi, no video conferencing on 3g at this time and likely not before 2011. Look how long it took for tethering to come out.
|
Wifi only, and when did the enable tethering? I am way behind the times...
|
Video Chat on the EVO is nice. Should be even better once the 4G rollout happens.

I think people will try Facetime a few times...and then not use it much past that.... No one really wants to video conference that way on a regular/day-2-day basis.
|
It'll be like trying to hold the Indy500 in my driveway.
The iPhone will never reach its potential on the AT&T network. |

facetime only works with other iphone 4 phones so it'll be a slow rollout. once skype builds the right API into it, it will expand.
With the new iphone 4 you'll see people bitch less about AT&T. new design, new antenna design and current iPhone problems are more with the phone than the network. it's not built right in the phone w/ the antenna layout in the design of the iphone. completely redone w/ the 4 4G will take a few more years to be effective on Sprint |

it's already crap..

Don't hold your breath for ATT 4G. From what I have heard its at least a year away.

It's funny, I only ever hear people bitching about AT&Ts service with the iPhone. No one else seems to have any complaints. |

Sprint is the only one with real 4G and very limited ... |
I still love my Iphone 3G.
The iphone changed the game and will continue to do so IMHO. I think the only thing holding them back is being tied to ATT if it was available through other carriers it would be even better. |
All this talk of 4g, is everyone over looking the HSPDA network upgrades that have already been implemented to all of AT&Ts cell towers? AT&T "expects a fill roll out by the end of this year".
Maybe not as fast as 4g, but damn close. Much faster than typical 3g speeds. |

In addition, I work remote and our entire company uses Video calling... every time... it's really the way everything is moving... |
how many relationships is that thing going to ruin?
Girl:Honey where are you? Guy: at work Girl:I don't believe you, lets do facetime. Guy: uhhh it's broken right now. |

I'm with you, we use skype video all day |
Do you really think that AT&T is to blame? I think the issue is that the iphone web usage is more than triple any other phone, therefore this sort of load would crush any network. These networks that were initially designed to handle texts and phone calls are now downloading full websites, watching videos on youtube, and then there are all the damn apps that use the network as well.
I firmly believe that the only reason verizon is fast is because all their phones suck. NOW... when I say they suck I'm not talking about processor and capability.. I'm purely talking about usability. :2 cents: |
AT&T 3G is so spotty, I would never trust it for a video call.
to start its only on WiFi and i'm willing to bet it will stay like that for a while. thats a lot of bandwidth they have to eat for a few videos calls. just get a Verizon MiFi and connect to it and your set :thumbsup |

From a usability standpoint, anything running Android is on par with iPhone. |
