multisexsite 01-02-2003 11:01 AM

woohoo but they still suck

Interlude 01-02-2003 12:04 PM

I use them as a secondary processor... good signup rate, very little if any chargebacks. It helps that they pre-verify their account holders :)

AND they only charge like 3% for fees - unlike the other CC companies 15%+ -- why throw away money? Paypal rocks. And as long as you are cool with them, they are cool with you.

ZoiNk 01-02-2003 12:26 PM

A few months ago they were claiming very high fees with the whole Visa thing. Are you sure you hit the adult department and not another department of paypal? I find that odd :) Maybe they got rid of them.

yup, like I said - if you are cool with them then they are cool with you. I have been using them for years and everything has been perfect.

p1mpdogg 01-02-2003 12:37 PM

FUCK!

strainer 01-02-2003 12:38 PM

I use them for dvds and tapes as a backup processor and they have been smokin. One chargeback in 6 months, nice shopping cart, daily payouts and less than 3% skim.

I'm afraid to try them though for memberships - I thought then I'd have to fork over the $1500.

Every time I call PayPal about this I can never get an answer on who has to pay and who doesn't, but I thought it was adult memberships.

Fletch XXX 01-02-2003 12:39 PM

dont put all your trust into paypal.

if you dont have large numbers in your bank, dont leave all your money in paypal, they start to hold money for no reason when the sums get large enough, not to mention subsription and password errors.

If you start to move to many things around and too much money youll get the headache so many others get.

They also have an "autosweep" function. This deposits any money in your paypal account to your bank account on a daily basis. This way you can never have "too much" money in your paypal account also.

cherrylula 01-02-2003 12:46 PM

They just added a bunch of other (non-us) currencies too. I like paypal. :)

Va2k 01-02-2003 12:53 PM

Yea anytime Ihad my account frozen I called the number on my debit card and it was taken care of within 20 mins. alot of times when I move over 1000.00 they call me to make sure I was the one sending this. I LOVE Them

Va2k 01-02-2003 12:55 PM

OH yea they also offer FREE Trials yea BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

strainer 01-02-2003 12:59 PM

Just got off the phone from them. The rep told me that "high risk" digital transactions would be charged the $1500. I am guessing that eventually 100% of all adult membership sites will be charged the fee.

I agree, I never let my PalPal account grow over a couple thousand dollars at the very most, given their record of freezing accounts, and I only use them as a backup for tangible products.

Cohen 01-02-2003 01:09 PM

In the last 2 years that I have used PayPal, I have NEVER had any problem - EVER !

My new Amateur site will use Paypas as a primary payment solution.

It was Actually Voodoo that gave me the info that there was good usermanagement software outthere today, using paypal.

Uh, the first "regular" PayPal I got never heard of it either. Then he referred me to the "business development group" and they read me a document I also have in email, if you like I can find and post it.

Ken doesn't know what he is talking about. From what I have heard some people are paying the PayPal fee, and some aren't. When I asked the guy for the rule, he told me to write [email protected] to see if they know.

strainer 01-02-2003 01:56 PM

Here is the email frm PayPal: Tell Ken to brush up on things.

Dear Stephen,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Visa and MasterCard require high-risk merchants to complete a registration
form, pay an initial registration fee, and pay renewal fees on an annual
basis.

**Please note that the fees are imposed by Visa and MasterCard, not by
PayPal. In keeping with PayPal's core policy of not charging set-up costs
and/or annual fees to our Merchants, PayPal (in contrast with many IPSPs)
will not add any additional or hidden costs to these Visa & MasterCard
fees.

In order to assure your continued access to PayPal's transaction platform,
please provide the requested Merchant Registration information by October
31st. We need to receive your written response (either via email or via
facsimile) no later than October 31st, 2002. Also, If your registration
fees are unpaid after October 31st, PayPal will be unable to process
transactions on your behalf.

If you decide pay the registration fees required by Visa and MasterCard,
PayPal will deduct $1,500 directly from your PayPal account ($500 Visa fee
+ $1,000 MasterCard fee) on October 31st, 2002. Please ensure that you have
sufficient funds in your PayPal account on October 31st to cover these
fees. If you need to deposit money into your PayPal account, you can
transfer funds directly from your registered bank account.

If you are unable or unwilling to comply with the new Visa and MasterCard
regulations, PayPal will no longer be able to process high-risk
transactions for you. By October 31st, you must cease using your PayPal
account to process high-risk transactions, and remove any PayPal logos
which may appear on your website(s).

Please email [email protected] if you have further questions regarding this
issue.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Sincerely,
Monica
PayPal Customer Service

I am totally confused too. Evertime I call PayPal I get a different answer. And the people at "[email protected]" don't have a phone!

If anybody ever gets an absolute, definitive answer please enlighten us all!

crusty63 01-02-2003 02:48 PM

I use PayPal, but only for returning or current non-revshare members, I have to check each one to make sure they didnt' join under a partner.

I don't have them on my join page because I've heard of the fraud problems and didn't want to chance it.

They haven't charged me a high-risk fee either.. but I'm not doing much volume yet on PP..when everyone I set up starts to rebill this month, it will jump a bit. I have a lot of 3 month members now.

They checked out my site when I signed up and haven't said a thing. I think that it's going to be mostly high-dollar sites that get charged.

As long as I don't put them on my join page and continue to only send recurring members over there, they should work out fine.

One thing I did do with PP that I wouldn't DARE have done with any other company is offer 3, 6 and 12 month memberships. I've had several members take those longer memberships and it's nice to be paid the same day, especially since I'm not making any money from Ibill.

Ok, here is what happened to me when I called just now...

I asked the first guy about extra fees, and he said there was none. He said the ONLY tihng they charge is 2.9% +30 cents per trans. I pushed him about it a little more, asked him if he was sure because I have seen evidence they do charge $1500 for "high risk" sites.. when I said "high risk" the guy really freaked out on me, lol. He then transfered me to somebody higher.

The lady then refused to tell me anything once I said "adult website". She said I needed to talk to somebody else - in a different department in a different building, lol. She then asked for my number and all that so the guy I needed to talk to can call me back. I told her i was impossible to get ahold of and asked for his number - she refused to give me the phone number saying they only call people...... ya whatever

And another thing, they kept trying to force me to give them my account information, lol. I kept telling them I did not have one, and was just calling for information (bullsit story BTW). but almost every 3rd sentence from them was them trying to get my account info, lol.

Indeed 01-02-2003 03:04 PM

To make sure I could use Paypal on my adult site I contacted them and asked to review my site. Someone got back to me and told me my site was alright and that I could use paypal on it. I didn't have to pay any fee and it's working good so far...I only use them as a backup though...I would not use them as primary

Va2k 01-02-2003 03:14 PM

This is weird I called again and nothing about the fee's was transfered to tech support again and still nothing about the fee's fuck it im using them :)

Its not a question of whether you *can*. Assuming its legal content, no problem, you can use PayPal for a members site.

The question is, 6 months from now, will they demand the $1500 as they did from some sites?

Probono 01-02-2003 03:17 PM

Very odd since we had to pay them $1,500 in fees for Adult stuff.

Yeah, sure, why not. They work fantastic for my dvd and tape sales, where, by offering free shipping we coax over 50% of buyers into PayPal instead of Ibill.

But for the members site I think you have to assume that sooner or later they will charge you the fee, now that they have told everybody (except their tech support people) that they would.

So I went with Globill instead. But fuck, now that I think about it, I'd SAVE $1500 with PayPal in almost no time anyway, so I don't know why I even care about it.

Big E 01-02-2003 04:19 PM

Jeremy Downs is the one to talk to. He's been to the shows and been active in the (adult) community.

Jeremy Downs
[email protected]

Yes, adult websites are supposed to register and pay the $1500. I don't think PayPal's left hand knows what the right hand is doing. I'm sure you can sign up as a non-adult account and process transactions for a period of time, but eventually you'll get "discovered" and have to pay the fees.

Hi i want to use you all again for my virginiaamateurs.net site what all do i have to do? If i have to pay that stupid 750.00 I do not want it. Thank you

TOM
==============================================
Hi Tom-
Patrick forward me this email since I work with primarily adult merchants. If you want to sell memberships to your site using PayPal you will have to pay a $1500 ($1000 MasterCard; $500 Visa) High-Risk merchant registration fee. If this is going to be a road block then let me know.

troy

==============================================

YEs this is a road block too many free credit card companys like acpay globill that dont charge this stupid fee I will take down the link to the free trail. You all need to tell your tech this... I called yesterday and KEN said there was NO fee's so I wasted a day setting this up. NOT a good thing time is to hard to find just to waste it.

TOM

:feels-hot nice tech support they helped me setup and everything swore there were no fee's FUCK em..............................

im taking my kids to the park peace

Forgive my cynicism but, where are they getting this 1000-dollar Mastercard fee from, their ass? This whole thing with Paypal giving different answers and other PayPal dept.s not knowing about the fees, is a bit fishy. Given that they freeze accounts on a whim, my acct included, I wouldn't trust them as far as I can throw them.

Just my .02

I can assure you the $1,000 MC fee is real. We paid it to MC on our merchant account and to Paypal last year . The only question is why / when the other billing companies will announce the fee. I am not sure why they have not been hit by MC yet. It might be a 2003 surprise to all.
