Sometimes (often times), a great shot is just luck. You never know what's gonna go into the lens. You can try as hard as you like, and even then... sometimes shit happens. Other days, you just let it flow, and perfection occurs. You just never know.

though I have a strong skills set I shoot 'artistically', not 'scientifically' as some do... and I tend to avoid shoots where I have no emotional connection with the shoot.

If I can give you an honest opinion, she needs a bit of work. Her face is cute from certain angles, like in the 3rd picture but she needs to tone her body. She is abit rounded. She's a project but she has potential :)

I don't believe that at all. I think great shots come from having experience and skills. Luck plays a very very small part in the making of a great photograph. Sure, once in a great while a little luck might blow your way, but if you're relying on luck to make great pictures, you should find a new line of work. I don't mean YOU, I mean anyone who takes pictures.

One of the elements of a good photographer is "consistency". The ability to make great photography every time he steps behind the camera. Of course "good photography" is subjective but my point is ..... a serious photographer can't go through life praying for luck every time he has a shoot. Great pictures are not taken by accident...except in the rarest of occasions. Great pictures are a result of years of study, skills and experience. There are no shortcuts ...

I've never looked a professional photographers work and thought to myself - "wow, this guy sure is lucky"! No, I look at professional photographers work and think to myself - "wow, this guy really knows his shit"!

The model is half the shot though. I seen great photogs look like dick because the model just doesn't have "it" - doesn't know how to "talk" to the camera.

I've also see shitty photogs get decent material because their girl was gifted...
