...may be fired by President Obama for insubordination. The General has been ordered home from Afghanistan for a face to face meeting with the President. All of this due to a Rolling Stone interview with the General and his staff.

I saw on the news that it was all because of that icelandic volcano diverting flights. So the reporter was with them for a month, and they clearly let their guard down and let the shit fly. Idiots. He's brought dishonor to himself and his units and his country frankly. What a fuckup.

The General has already offered up his resignation, and he hasn't even made it to the White House yet. Personally, my opinion is that Obama needs to make a very public example of this man, reject his resignation, and fire him instead... on TV if possible. This isn't his first offense or the first time he's needed "talking to" by the Pres. The Pres. has been lenient and now it's time to publicly shit can this nut. Military members, and especially military leaders, do not get the right to talk shit about their superiors. It's in black & white writing. If he wants to express himself, he must exit the military to do so. While he is in, he is Government Property. And he knows it.

Kinda hilarious, because if you replace "Obama" with "Bush", we would be getting a different opinion than you. Obama has very little respect from people that are not on his staff, him making an example of someone who accurately criticizes his shortcomings just makes him look dumb.

It is a shame that a Commander in Chief and his administration...that for the most part have never spent a single day in the military...are allowed to micro manage military operations...but this General and his staff need to be fired...if for no other reason then their own stupidity.

I always detested the fact that clueless civilians are allowed to micro manage military operations...but that is our system since the beginning.

Well, that was the General's problem as well, it's just something beyond Amputate's understanding. However, it's not a good move politically, especially if the Afghani president is endorsing the General.

If Bush pulled that shit I would have told him to STFU as well. It's definitely sad that someone with no knowledge or experience is allowed to pull strings half a world away.

Summary of the RS article: A lot of people to blame for this crime. BP for committing it. MMS and Salazar for letting them do it. Obama for not forcing Salazar to clean up MMS faster. Bush for giving MMS (and Big Oil) 8 years of corruption with a free pass.

McCrystal was speaking the truth about the incompetence of the Obama administration but he obviously chose the wrong forum to do it. I think Obama could help himself and the war effort here by putting the good of the country over politics and refusing McCrystal's resignation. :2 cents:
