I've had one for about a month. It replaced my iPhone 3G.
So far I am satisfied with it. Not blown away, but satisfied.
Obviously the Android system has a whole lot of advantages like greater freedom and all that.
Compared to the iPhone the major negatives are:
The standard keyboard on the Desire sucks. I have not tried alternative keyboards, but intend to experiment.
Battery life is pretty poor. I get 1.5 days maximum. And that is with wifi disabled (it kept losing connection to my access point both at home and at my office).
Scrolling etc. is quite laggy compared to the iPhone.
A couple minor complaints: Desire can only be woken from standby by pressing the top button. No physical button to mute the phone. Takes _forever_ to shut down -- we are talking 2+ mins. No proper video podcast app (Google Listen works well with audio only).
