anyone know if this is happening friday?

Theo 06-24-2010 01:39 PM

We're covering it from Brussels... doesn't look good

Wizzo 06-24-2010 01:39 PM

That seems to be the word on the street...

Emma 06-24-2010 01:40 PM

we don't need .xxx

Spudstr 06-24-2010 01:42 PM

Was I the only person who read. "But members of ICANN's board have argued that in order to maintain neutrality in dealing with domain name assignations, it should create .xxx and allow websites with sexually explicit content to start using the suffix on a voluntary basis."

So what I gather it will be a voluntary solution.

That is exactly how I read it.:2 cents::2 cents:

FreeHugeMovies 06-24-2010 01:47 PM

Aren't they trying to stick it to us as well? Isn't each domain like 25 bucks or something?

beerptrol 06-24-2010 01:47 PM

I was looking over trademarks and noticed quite a few .xxx domains trademarked

mpahlca 06-24-2010 01:49 PM

it has always been voluntary they cant force you to use a domain anymore than .org forces everyone to be a not for profit.

Instablocking is definitely in the future.

In a sense, .xxx domains are like those city ordnances that relegated strip bars and sex shops to warehouse districts and other specially designated areas. Less foot traffic.

Quentin 06-24-2010 02:10 PM

Good to see that Reuters relies on the same total bullshit stats about the adult internet that other media outlets do.

Quote:

Online pornography is a vast industry. Figures collated by Internet Pornography Statistics suggest more than $3,000 is spent on Internet pornography every second, with "sex" the number one search term in the world, accounting for 25 percent of all Internet searches.
Riiiiight. $259,200,000.00 is being spent per day on web-based porn. That's a totally reasonable estimate and not at all absurd.

Do journalists check facts at all any more? For that matter, do they own calculators?

LickMyBalls 06-24-2010 02:12 PM

Thanks FSC! Another job well done while playing with tube sites. :thumbsup

And the price should be that of a .com price, not the 60 or 70 bucks they want to ass rape people for, for the .xxx.

I hope it doesn't pass, oh and fuck stewart lawley :321GFY

We should send that link to every church we can find......LOL

FightThisPatent 06-24-2010 02:25 PM

chatting with Tom Hymes now in icq who is over there now, it ain't over yet...

but ICANN certainly has alot of pressures and fear of lawley's lawsuit that .XXX might just get passed.

Fight the .XXX!

Coup 06-24-2010 03:20 PM

i can't wait for .xxx

ThumbLord 06-24-2010 03:27 PM

Stewart Lawley is a prick and GOD please let the .xxx FAIL

Major (Tom) 06-24-2010 03:39 PM

The industry is so small now, affiliates gone, affiliate programs closing left and right, x sales gone, who the F needs a .xxx? I'd conjecture it will suffer the same fate as a .info etc.
ds

jalami 06-24-2010 03:50 PM

It should be the other way around, .kids makes more sense...

GeckoDude 06-24-2010 03:51 PM

who took www.xxx.xxx ?

kristin 06-24-2010 03:55 PM

Nothing will change, .com will still have all the same porn sites on it and .xxx will just be a place for squatters to go hoping for the errant address entry to whitelabel.

scarlettcontent 06-24-2010 04:12 PM

You have the right to apply for domains in .xxx that you already own in .com,
.net or another TLD, such as a country code TLD.

kane 06-24-2010 05:13 PM

I don't think we need it, but I think it will pass.

When ICANN relaxed the rules for creating a TLD a few years ago they pretty much opened the door for this to happen.

CYF 06-24-2010 06:19 PM

.xxx is just going to be another crappy TLD just like .info and .biz

BFT3K 06-24-2010 06:21 PM

So hurry up and register your .xxx extension everyone!

Your site could be the first one filtered off the net!

Don't miss out!

I don't know why anyone in the business puts any faith in them at all. They are totally useless. Always have been, always will be.

Cyber Fucker 06-24-2010 07:10 PM

Sooner or later ...personally I don't like the idea of more tlds but ICANN and registrars want badly new tlds so, we are doomed for new tlds.

I bet if it goes thru they will immediately start lobbying for it to be law in the us. I just got a feeling. Then they can charge whatever they want.

Sounds like gentrification to me.

GeorgeK 06-25-2010 01:38 AM

You can watch the decision live, right now (4:38 am Eastern time) remotely, with live video and chat:

http://ac.icann.org/goldhall

They're on a break, and will be deciding .xxx in a few minutes.

NickB. 06-25-2010 01:39 AM

shouldnt be a problem for anyone really

Yes they will get it through at this try or the next or the next. They will not stop trying until it's passed. :(
