XBIZ NEWS: ICANN Moves Forward With .XXX Proposal

XBIZ NEWS: ICANN Moves Forward With .XXX Proposal

BRUSSELS, Belgium ? ICANN?s board of directors voted Friday morning to move forward with ICM Registry?s .XXX proposal.

so what does this mean, simple, please? i dont get that whole thing ...

munki 06-25-2010 03:06 AM

.xxx is happening... time to wrap your head around it.

This is the best part of the statement:

"XXX would be dedicated exclusively to adult content and could be used by some states as a means to force all unwanted or illegal content to migrate to that sTLD that could then be easily monitored or filtered.

ICM?s plan also would require a set of ?best practices? to protect children online and fund the International Foundation for Online Responsibility, an independent organization ICM has said it would create if approved.

ICM pledges to donate $10 of the proposed annual fee of $60 for a .XXX domain name to child-protection groups and require users of .XXX to label their content. ICM said it hasn?t planned any volume discounts, but that it would ?listen to the community.?

So the United state government couldn't force adult sites to block access to minors be requiring a credit card as age verification. The supreme court has ruled that available filtering software is an adequate form of protection for those wishing to block adults sites, yet this guy somehow thinks he is going to get this industry to all willingly transfer every domain we own over to .xxx, label the content and follow some kid of "best practices" policy he is going to set up.

The guy is either completely out of touch with reality, or he is a brilliant bullshiter who has used this as a way to get his .xxx passed.

ICANN kicked the proposal back to GAC for review and further consideration. The process is a long way from over. Two of the board members abstained their votes and the others realize that there are a lot of problems with the lack of support by the adult community as a whole.

Yep. It could easily be another 6-12 months or longer before this is settled.

Jarmusch 06-25-2010 03:28 AM

$60 annual fee? lol.

Dirty Dane 06-25-2010 03:50 AM

So where do I register sex.xxx?

ruff 06-25-2010 05:40 AM

I'll pass.

Stuart Lawley, chairman of ICM, welcomed the decision and said it was "great news for those that wish to consume, or avoid, adult content".

I imagine having an .xxx domain, will allow just about anyone anywhere to block your site completely.

I wonder how they will solve it if someone owns porndomain.com and someone else owns porndomain.net, there is only 1 porndomain.xxx

Dont worry. People that are looking for porn will be even more eager to find it. So if kids get blocked I all for it.

there is nothing to solve, first one to buy it owns it... :2 cents:

Redrob 06-25-2010 07:28 AM

The whole problem had been kicked back to GAC for reconsideration and evaluation. Nothing has really been decided but not to decide at this time. I wouldn't go out and get an XXX domain at this time as it is a waste of $60 and the action will probably be used as an example of implied industry support for .XXX. Non-refundable?

Just my opinion.....

closer 06-25-2010 07:34 AM

we have .aero and .jobs too, I haven't seen 1 airline using .aero in its commercials though....

Kolargol 06-25-2010 07:38 AM

60-10=50 - still a lot for a domain. BTW I see no FSC comments here...

No way, I bet they will try to increase their profit with a "place your bids" introduction time to "solve" those issues :winkwink:

Redrob 06-25-2010 07:50 AM

With Tom and Diane in Brussels, Tom has been reporting through his news releases which have included his and Diane's statements as the situation has developed. I'd suggest you read the AVN news releases for the past three days. There you will find all the FSC comments.
