is america rather liberal?

i watched a film 'milk' about a chap in the usa who was openiy gay and started gay rights.

what struck me was if you excluded the christan nuts how liberal the usa was about it in the 1970's.

i could noyt emagine the uk in the 1970's that liberal.

in the 1970's in the usa they had the teachers at to sack gay teachers but was overturned.

in the 1980's uk the then conservatives had a sort of law too, which i belive no longer exsists.

but we in the uk only in the last say ten years seem to be now on the level the usa was in the 1970's.

i know the usa did have anti gay laws but i think we (uk) had far worse and iused to treat gay people far far worse.

i suspect the uk laws on freedom of speech and even gun laws creates a liberal culture.

though its also odd with some aspects in the usa such as public nudety on tv. i am still suprised what fuss was made by the nipple in the superbowl a few years ago. while in the uk (nnot so common now) there used to be streakers running out onto football and cricket games all the time. no one was shocked. in fact it was expected - often i think thats the only reason people used to watch.

the press and media is liberal, the rest of america is mostly right wing

Our system was set up so there were no such thing as "gay rights" but individual rights. The progressives have been trying for years to make rights collective and you have to be born to a group to get different rights than other groups. MJK would be rolling over in his grave.

yeah, i think you're right about that. mostly people wanna have jobs, keep the money they make, be safe in their homes, have 'buying power' have good schools for their kids.... while the press and media want everyone to get a free ride, America to support every foreign national, put the white man in his place etc... sorta like the highschool kids at GFY
