Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to let yall know about a great way to keep the mosquitoes off while out in the yard. It's Listerine. Just spray it on your body the same way as if you were using "OFF". Not only does it work as well or even better than Deep Woods OFF, its safe & a whole lot cheaper! It has to be the "original" Listerine, NOT the mint flavor. You can use the Dollar Store brand ($2.00) or Walmart's Equate brand ($2.50) as long as it's the original flavor. I had been using Deep Woods OFF with 29% Deet & having to spray every few hours and was still getting bites. I know Deet is bad for you but other than dressing in long pants & shirt in 90 degree weather, I had no choice. I've tried about every tip & suggestion there is to keep them away but nothing has ever worked until "Listerine". I honestly didn't think it would work either, But I've been using & testing it for the past 3 weeks & it REALLY DOES WORK. And if it works for me, it should work for anyone because the mosquitoes LOVE me! At dusk while watering my flowers, I can hear the moquitoes swarming around me BUT NO BITES!!! And tonight my mother-in-law's legs were covered in black dots that were actually moquitoes. She sprayed with Listerine & they completely went away. So...she told me to spread the word!!!

Coconut butter, stop using it :2 cents:

Jarmusch 06-27-2010 04:57 PM

I heard eating lots of garlic helps. It also helps in repelling other members of the human species.

The Heron 06-27-2010 07:42 PM

All your cologne is probably attracting them...
Get something with DEET in it, preferrably 40% that'll keep em away

You now are infected with West Nile..you are doomed.

MrBottomTooth 06-27-2010 07:56 PM

I live out in the country and a lot of people out here use these little propane traps that draw them in and kill them. You hook a BBQ tank up to them.

http://www.home-mosquito-control.com/

That, combined with some Deep Woods Off (with a shitload of carcinogenic Deet in it) works to keep them away.

Helix 06-27-2010 07:57 PM

a bucket of dry ice works as well

BFT3K 06-27-2010 08:43 PM

Aim a fan or two at yourself.

I've heard Avon's Skin So Soft lotion works, but never tried it. Mosquitos have been horrible here, and with 5 dogs and a 9 year old son, I need to get rid of them. So I picked up some of the Cutter Bug Free yard spray that you hook up to your hose. Takes me about 15 minutes to cover the back yard with the stuff, and the mosquitos are gone for about 2 months. Then you have to re-spray it, but it's worth it.

I have this super expensive shit that is 97% DEET. It works really well (I live right by a lake) so i know exactly what works and what doesn't. I barely spray any of this shit on and they bite everyone else instead of me... Anything made by "OFF" doesn't hold a candle to this.

Any sort of bug zapper does NOT work at all. You can eventually lower the number of misquitos wiht that shit you spray on trees. Also get rid of any standing water as well.

You can also try vanilla oil. That apparently works really good, and smells quite nice.

Vjo 06-27-2010 10:29 PM

Cutters

is Edit: good. Cause around a lake, who knows, they can get nasty. :) I believe it will do the job but you will have to put it on thick. Agreed anything by Off has always been junk.

Around here I keep that one item in the trunk for sure in the summer. Or you aint getting out of the car if you break down in the wrong spot.

That shit smells like fucken danger tho.. and I avoid using it. Had a kid in my neighborhood who got all f'd up using insect spray that had DEET in before they outlawed it.

Yup, i actually have an allergy to mosquitos and my doctor recommended garlic pills from the nutrition store. They work GREAT (gotta give it a few days before it kicks in nicely).

Bird 06-28-2010 12:48 AM

Simple! Just don't use lotions and perfumes

Male semen. The catch is that it can't be your own. Has to come from another male. The bigger and hairier the guy is the more potent their repellent is.

Best of luck, let us know how it goes.

quiet 06-28-2010 02:11 AM

citronella burners baby. if you are sitting out side on your patio or balcony, just light those fuckers up all around.

Shags 06-28-2010 02:11 AM

Get a bat; they can eat more than 1,000 mosquitoes an hour.

When you are being approached by strange mosquito do not try to pet, do not make direct eye contact and do not talk, but at the same time make sure that you stand your ground ....

there's one method that ALWAYS works.

Bring someone like you everywhere.

Mosquito's love some people and hate others ( they hate me ). So if you bring someone that the mosquito's love, they will go after them instead of you.

Kinda like " how to outrun a bear "

You don't need to outrun a bear , you just need to outrun the other guy with you. TIP always bring a slow fat guy with you camping ( p.s. smear some lard on his backpack helps )

That helps, and so does avoiding eating sweet things (bananas, etc.) while you're out in the bush.

Tom_PM 06-28-2010 01:09 PM

Dang, a real excuse to eat tons of garlic? That sounds like the ticket!

mayabong 06-28-2010 01:13 PM

Eat A few cloves of garlic, works like a charm down in the swamps.

czarina 06-28-2010 01:17 PM

either use regular repelent, or drink lots of chamomile tea; once you start sweating it, they'll stay away from you.
