I sacrafice myself all the time and say it to others, its the American way.

Because it's such a rare quality in people here. The American Way is "OMG, that person's in trouble...somebody needs to save them! Hurryhurryhurry, somebody come quick and save that person, they're going to die! OMG, why the fuck did you all let that person die? You could have saved them!"

They also never say "Goodbye" at the end of phone calls?

I do and watched an episode yesterday (on tivo) where a spaceship Titanic had a heavy set woman jump to her death dragging an 'angel' (evil mechanical one) with her and another babe drive a fork lift over the side to kill the evil dude...both seem pretty self-sacrificing to me and very British
