Have you ever been totally BORED and WORN OUT from working in this business?

I've been totally unmotivated for the best part of 3 months.

The World Cup hasn't helped make me knuckle down any, but it runs deeper than that.

I guess I'm just tired of it all, sponsors that don't pay, sponsors that shave your balls, hosting companies that are useless, maintaining hundreds of affiliate sites, the tubes of course (who can forget them?) ruining ratios, search engines constantly working on their roller coaster algos. I worked damn hard last year and traffic has actually gone up across the board.

Anyone else in / have been in this scenario? I have too much invested in my network of sites to just quit, I don't really want to sell the lot either.

Burn out from doing the same thing day in day out for 8 years? Time for a month's holiday? What has anyone else done who has been in this position to beat the blues?

Beer time. :Oh crap

CYF 06-29-2010 11:28 PM

you need a vacation.

pradaboy 06-29-2010 11:37 PM

Yeah you need a vacation, it happens to all of us. You bust your ass all day and get tired of it all. Go to the Caribbean, somewhere sunny and just relax. It will give you new energy.

CunningStunt 06-29-2010 11:51 PM

Yeah, my sister has the right idea, she's just got back from 2 weeks in Antigua.

I forgot to add, it doesn't help being sleep deprived, our 6 month old lad is teething something chronic.

black1000 06-30-2010 03:23 AM

I guess everyone's tired of this bullshit. However I'm still hoping next year will be better. US government declared war on piracy so if all those f***ing tubes and file sharing sites were gone I think our business would be blooming again

Seeing is believing mate.

babymaker 06-30-2010 04:09 AM

I am super burned out nothing but bad news everywhere and all changes for the worse, not even sure what to work on since nothing seems to work anymore.

bbobby86 06-30-2010 04:16 AM

it happens all the time...

Klen 06-30-2010 04:42 AM

I have been totaly unmotivated for last 4 yours hehe. But what's man gotta do,man gotta do.

ottopottomouse 06-30-2010 04:54 AM

You need a holiday.

BigRod 06-30-2010 04:56 AM

I was felling exactly the same way until I decided to try my hand at mainstream affiliate programs. Now I bounce from industry to industry and that helps fight the bordom.

Its also nice to see hard work immediately pay off in other industries unlike this one.

PornHero 06-30-2010 05:13 AM

I've experienced the same thing in the past.

here are some things that have motivated me:

1. Rent an office in a building with lots of other offices - having to get out of the house and seeing other people rushing about helped me

2. Spend more money, buy an expensive car, remodel your kitchen or something like that. The more i spend the more motivated i get. Sitting back and watching the bank account grow made me lazy.

3. Pretend you had to look for a 9-to-5 job. Look at the job classifieds. Go on a few job interviews. The thought of having to work for someone else makes me wanna puke and lights a fire under my ass. You need to remind yourself how good you have it. :)

loreen 06-30-2010 05:19 AM

I never get bored in front of the PC. Never. I think there's something wrong with me :)

Paul Markham 06-30-2010 05:38 AM

Never felt bored or worn out when I was shooting. Meeting new girls who got naked for you was always fun. LOL

Now I'm not working and at home recovering there are times I wish I could do more.

Agent 488 06-30-2010 05:41 AM

yes sitting in front of a computer all the time can be worse than a fucking day job eventually. i can hear you. i had to focus on shit beyond adult lately to keep from going mad.

No, making money online is a dream come true.

But enjoy your vacation, cheers.

Serial Pervert 06-30-2010 06:14 AM

yes.... D:

CaptainHowdy 06-30-2010 06:14 AM

I used to but now that I sorta got around doing money with less effort it's awesome!

CunningStunt 06-30-2010 06:16 AM

I agree 100%. :thumbsup :thumbsup

Adraco 06-30-2010 06:54 AM

I have offices all over. Check out http://www.regus.com, they have many offices world wide and you can even decide if you want 5, 10 or unlimited days of access each month and different price plans. There are usually nice young girls at the recepiton desk, coffee machines and open, fresh surroundings. You can have your own private office or work in an open office landscape.

Since I'm travelling a lot, it's really nice to always have a place to call home, which is nice and clean and just works. Printing, faxing, conference possibilities and much more. And you can either have a membership on just one of their locations or the one I have where I can walk into anyone of their locations world wide.

selena 06-30-2010 07:03 AM

Yes. And it was easier to shake off back when sales were plentiful. Nowadays, I just try to focus on mainstream more when that happens.

I do think that having an office to go to would help me immensely.

fatfoo 06-30-2010 07:07 AM

The human mind needs change.
You can't keep doing the same thing constantly.

spazlabz 06-30-2010 07:29 AM

burnout... ahhh my old nemesis. I get burned out hardcore on average of once every two or three years and it hits me hard. I will just sit at the computer trying to think of where to start but paralyzed by inactivity. I am fortunate in as much as I find it relatively easy to hit the reset and get back into things. Sometimes as little as a two day stretch of turning the computer off and not thinking about anything. Get me out of the house for a day and I get revved up and ready to go.

That is the absolutely best thing about my current situation. I work 7 days a week by choice and the guys I work with are flexible as hell. It actually makes me want to work more. But on any given day, if I feel sluggish and bored I know there is always a good race to watch on Sunday :) it's the simple things in life that keep us fired up and productive. for you it may mean a month off, for me a relaxing weekend and an exciting Sunday afternoon :)

Relentless 06-30-2010 07:38 AM

Thousands of years ago a half-naked starving man with an IQ of less than 50 trekked out into the cold winter and walked barefoot through the snow. A gigantic prehistoric bear attacked that man and the man was armed with nothing more than his walking stick.

The man fought and gouged the bears eyes, got bit and battered but actually managed to kill the bear with his own two hands. A year later he found a woman and got her pregnant and his child became your great great great great... great grandfather.

So, tell me again how sitting in an air conditioned room with lights and wifi working on websites is wearing you out. For all the trillions of variable that had to roll snake-eyes over thousands of years just so you could exist for a short while... you owe it to that crazy ancestor who fought a savage bear with a stick AND WON to dust yourself off and get back to work!

seeandsee 06-30-2010 07:40 AM

me too, i will watch out some banks to infiltrate like cashier :D , no money left in biz

so after such an epic struggle now you express your existence by spending the short miracle of life by pressing a button in a room like some science experiment.

actually, that is kind of depressing.

Relentless 06-30-2010 07:51 AM

That depends what you build and why you build it.

EthnicLover 06-30-2010 07:52 AM

I suggest reading the 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. I just read it and will be implementing a lot of what he talks about. Mini-retirements vs vacations, leading a mobile lifestyle and much more.

Good luck.

The Dawg 06-30-2010 08:24 AM

Yea it happens. Just take some time off and leave the laptop at home. Relaxing and not thinking about building & maintaining will do wonders for you.

*I also have 2 kids under 2, so I know about the lack of sleep. :Oh crap Im looking forward to both of them sleeping through the night. Luckily we have family to ditch them with so me and the wife can get away sometimes.

BFT3K 06-30-2010 09:40 AM

Sometimes I wish I had to peddle a bike in order to power my computers.... or I could work standing up, maybe while walking on a treadmill.

Years and years of sitting, just sucks!

Hey mate, I'm there right now. I work 16 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week, for four years now. So what I do is I 'schedule' Me Time; I go out at 6 for an hour, have a pint or smoke a doob, chill and remember there's an actual WORLD out there that doesn't come through to me via a computer screen.

Scheduling it helps - makes me feel less guilty. When the Me Time is up then it's "time to get back to work", usually refreshed.

And hey, did you want to talk to me via Yahoo? Got an email like that a few days ago and was confused. I'm on ICQ or, if it's important, I could go Yahoo. Let me know. :)

PS - going to see a comedy show and laughing yer arse off is a great way to help burnt out. :)

Take some time off with family/friends ... go down south and relax.

Start drinking some high quality Italian red wine at dinner!

Yes. I have felt that at different times myself.

pornguy 06-30-2010 10:09 AM

Lots are saying that you need a Holiday and that is something that I dont totally agree with.

what I do and what lots of people do is find a way to shorten the week at some point. Make your Firday shorter so that the weekend starts sooner. Gives you a little more time to relax and the weekend does not seem so rushed. Or make Monday start a little later.

Then every few weeks drop a day of work in the middle of the week. Yes take a vacation but also add this extra time. I know that normally I end up working 10 to 12 hours a day. so dropping a little on one day wont hurt at all.

happens to me all the time...
then I take a day off, start a car and go at some new place on Danube, have some drinks, and just watch at the river and let it "flush" all the shit out of my brain...

@Jesus H Christ: good tip... I'll try that too.. (fucking nice avatar!)

a Holiday wont help. Its just a feeling of the same day everyday. I'm thinking about changing things.

CunningStunt 06-30-2010 02:50 PM

Thanks for the positive feedback, I really didn't expect it from this community.

Glad to see I'm not the only one in the same boat.

A holiday will not help, it will still all be here when I get back. I tried that. An attitude shift is required.

kristin 06-30-2010 02:51 PM

It has been said, but take a vacation.

This happens to me all the time, I need a few days away from the computer, stats, admins, etc and I come back ready to take on more.

ArsewithClass 06-30-2010 04:22 PM

I think the holiday comments from a few people are quit right cunning... I never am bored but I have felt worn out recently. Thats the job though.

Vjo 06-30-2010 06:24 PM

Instead of posting (for fun) go outside, altho it may be chilly "down there" now :) and sit outside and just relax. Think where you are, think where you want to be. Just about to do that on a fab evening.

Then again I think you have achieved success which then become a whole new game. You have to stay hungry. I work cause I must. If I didnt have to, umm I'd prob would back off a bit. But lean times shows ya you can never have enuf money. Plus you got to do something.

On another note, every post I make, every thing in this biz has a flip side.. And it is about 55-45 (not an easy call sometimes)

quick odd example..

I tell you not to post as much, then I think, "he gave me a pretty good tip the other day. Telling him not to post wasnt too smart. But some of us can be honest.. some of us dont need it all.

Thanks for the tip, been meaning to thank you. As a few folks have found out, I cant resist saying thanks.. 92 times. :)

Sometimes I don't see what 90% of others see, and when someone says, "here, go there" and they aint bs'ing, they have pretty much got a friend for life. :thumbsup

I admire someone who doesnt have to have it all.

If I get to your level I will also point a few cats in the right direction.

:thumbsup

And I hope this isnt "gay" as the younger gen says. :)

But fact is, if you and TC hadnt helped me and others.. well things would not be real good to say the least right now.

So, you both should know. :)

For the record.. I have never taken a vacation since 1997. That is prob not good. But with no woman around now, I have to do it all.

That is what is really hard but that is another thread. :)

This last month June was my best month since the summer of 2007. And it was a do or die month literally as I have some debt unfortunatly.

So GFY as a whole, thank you. :) And to you two guys ,
in particular, realize..

You saved a cat from prob going under. Seriously. It would not be right to not say thanks.

I love this biz. It is all I have and I thank you.

Now back to work. Just another day. :)

and thank you to my beautiful sponsors :thumbsup

I love you all.

Vjo 06-30-2010 08:00 PM

It occurs to me CS has no idea what the tip is. :)

Ahh but sometimes we dont see how our lives and actions affect others. :)

"It's a Wonderful Life" :)

Ok, in the brave new spirit, and for anyone who doesnt have the old cat on ignore yet :) j/k this is one of the tips that helped me have a great month:

Go look at CS sig. He wasnt kidding. I know you may all know that but I didnt. And this is the kind of thing that helps a small afil stay afloat.

Signup under his refer if you poss can.

Without all the overall sharing of every poster on GFY who knowingly or not all throw a piece into the puzzle, or sometimes just give you the puzzle put together and laminated, :) there would be one less poster here tonight for what it's worth. :)

Some of you prob wish there was. :) But others see the bigger picture I believe.

I joined in 2002 but after some serious setbacks that cut my income by 85% in the fall of 2007, in deep trouble with things on the overall decline as well, working like a mofo but nothing making money, I came back "home" in 2008 and began reading. I read for about 8 months before joining in again. I am a stand alone guy. And feel I can do it all. But...

Without GFY a lot of us, including me, would be long gone.

An attitude adjustment, you say? Okay, here are a couple, all meant in a serious (and kind) way:

Start smoking marijuana. It's a value-changing drug. Sativa tho, no Indica. :D

Take a stroll down where the bums hang out, the homeless, the fucking degenerates. Take a good, long look at them. Then take a stroll to where the businessmen hang out, and look at THEM, all dressed up for Church on a Thursday, scurrying here and there, slaves to their offices and commutes.

Your life is better than either of those existences.

Be Thankful, and then your attitude will adjust naturally. Good luck. :)

Vjo 06-30-2010 08:46 PM

PS. :) I guess you havent seen my "motivational playlist" thread. :)

And no I wasnt under fucken cocaine when I did it lol as someone said but I was feeling pretty good. :) When you are on a crash course and suddenly get "lift" it feels way better than cocaine believe me.

It's true though I use playlists to motivate me. These are what I played as my plane was on a crash course the last 3 years. Refusing to say die. MY music motivated me. Your music will be diff. But create playlists that fire you up.

You'll find the crazy thread without me bumping it again. :)

search: motivational playlist :)

It had 650+ views which surprised me and starts off with my "theme"..

i love this

and when Jane Wiedlin - Rush Hour (from my playlist) gets cooking, I'm cutting and pasting like a mofo. lol :)

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?p=17282681

there ya go, Warning I was rambling a bit that night. :)

CunningStunt 06-30-2010 08:47 PM
