Do you consider yourself a PORNOGRAPHER?

I was introduced to someone at a party a few days ago and he asked me what I did for a living. The first thing that came to my head was to say "I'm a pornographer", but obviously I just said "I'm a web developer".

After that I kept thinking about it: I consider myself a pornographer more than a web developer or website owner (I own a few hundred sites of my own).

How about you, is that how you'd define yourself?

MaDalton 06-30-2010 09:15 AM

i'm in this business for a couple of reasons but not because i love porn that much that i had no other choice

PR_Dave 06-30-2010 09:18 AM

I'm a Date-O-Grapher ;-)

Klen 06-30-2010 09:22 AM

I consider myself as hacktivist.

selena 06-30-2010 09:29 AM

No, I don't. Outside of a getting to help with the filming of Succubus and a few content shoots, I have nothing to do with the production end of things. I do happen to sell porn. But that doesn't make me a pornographer any more than my affiliate links to Nieman Marcus make me a upscale department store owner.

PGR 06-30-2010 09:31 AM

I don't produce content nor own paysites, so no.

I would define myself as Patrick.
Jobwise I am a pornographer but it does not say anything about my personality.

CurrentlySober 06-30-2010 09:32 AM

Yes I consider myself a pornographer first and foremost, as I have always created my own content.

The Porn Nerd 06-30-2010 10:19 AM

It all depends on:

1. who I'm talking to
2. What setting
3. If I'm talking to someone I want "in my life" or if it's just a 'casual conversation'
4. How snarky I'm feeling at the moment

So it's either "I'm a mini-porn star" or "online marketing". Sometimes it's even 'I'm the Porn King of Washington Heights". LOL

:Oh crap:Oh crap:Oh crap

Barefootsies 06-30-2010 01:01 PM

I typically say 'web developer' or 'consultant' now a days.

Frankly, I have my fingers in so many pies from shooting my own content, licensing, running my own websites and network, plus now adult/mainstream web hosting, marketing, web site development, plus a number of other things that 'pornographer' simply no longer really fits my 'job description' or career.

If someone asks me what it means, I refer them to whatever 'hat' fits them best.

Dirty Lord 06-30-2010 01:05 PM

just a fapper, just a fapper

Sid70 06-30-2010 01:11 PM

nah, just happened doing web design in adult was easier the day i started then in mainstream.

SpongeBub 06-30-2010 01:12 PM

If you sell porn or promote it in any way, you would fit the definition of "pornographer". But that is nothing to be ashamed of. I mean, you will feel fine standing before god and explaining why you did it, right?

BarryP 06-30-2010 01:20 PM

"I work on the interweb" is my typical response.

Im the director of my company, an adult business.

I find myself as a producer, videographer, photographer & model. I spend time party planning & a little on the web, our designer creates our sites, but I find myself doing some of that or editing photos & adding them to galleries.

A company director it has to be.

fuzebox 06-30-2010 02:52 PM

I am honest about it... Seeing as I own some paysites and shoot the content for them myself, pornographer seems appropriate.

mmcfadden 06-30-2010 03:01 PM

nobody understands the internet including judges and attorneys. just say that you sell your body and mind for money... much easier to understand

producer, I work in adult

BittieBucks 06-30-2010 07:33 PM

Hmmm

Yes I do, thats what I tell the girls anyways !

arock10 06-30-2010 07:35 PM

I just tell them I'm a sig whore

AmeliaG 06-30-2010 07:36 PM

I don't think pornographer really describes what I do, but I find it hard to give people a 25 words or less explanation. Like most people here, I do a lot of different things, which fit together with good synergy.

iSpyCams 06-30-2010 07:56 PM

"Marketing Consultant" is my usual reply when people are being nosy. They know any follow up questions will likely result in extreme boredom at that point and we can move on.

EliteWebmaster 06-30-2010 09:49 PM

I am usually much more honest, I come right out and say that I make my money being in the porn industry. People are very accepting of it and curious. For those that find it offensive, I rather not waste my time talking with or getting to know them anyways.

You will never believe how many girls I recruit from the bars and malls just by telling them I work in the porn industry. Dirty whores :)

2012 06-30-2010 09:52 PM

is google a pornographer ?

I see you met the prejudice.
We all sell cp, dont pay taxes, have hidden cameras all over the house (basement) and hang out with the mob.

:thumbsup

Konkan 06-30-2010 11:42 PM

No I am not, because if you analyze the word in short description it means that you are producing a porno content. Just because you have a certain number of adult blogs, tube sites or whatever is connected with that industry doesn`t makes you a pornographer !!!

Naechy 07-01-2010 12:45 AM

maybe, sometimes :)

JustDaveXxx 07-01-2010 12:58 AM

Im in the "meat distribution" business. lol

Chosen 07-01-2010 01:24 AM

I don't :)

:thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I gave up trying to explain to people after they asked me what I shoot, so I tell them straight up I'm a pornographer. Never saw myself as a photographer anyway.

If you sell, promote or create any product you're not into you will suffer. You have to understand the mind of the buyer.

God loves sex, that's why he made it so necessary and fun.

same here. Since I'm not producing the content myself, I consider I'm in "online marketing".

I'm a marketing director and SEO. Adult is just the content. I can do what I do for any industry. Adult's just where I've been since 1998.

inkognito 07-01-2010 08:13 AM

I'm not one of you! ;-) I'm student. :P

The Porn Nerd 07-01-2010 09:55 AM

Correction:
I now tell people I'm a fucking $2 whore. Got $2?
They usually run away after that. :D

PR_Glen 07-01-2010 11:53 AM

I always tell people i'm an Asshole first and foremost... helps lessen the confusion after they get to know me ;)

fatfoo 07-01-2010 12:12 PM

I like these labels better:
- data entry / writing descriptions - adult / mainstream
- website designs
- programming and html codes
- loans and debt collection

spazlabz 07-01-2010 12:18 PM

I only call myself a pornographer when I am joking. Otherwise I describe my job as online adult marketing. I don't know exactly why but I think years ago I read the definition of pornography as being obscene, of prurient interest only with no redeeming qualities and no artistic merit... by definition illegal in most communities in the US... sure it is splitting hairs (not a new niche) but I feel more respectable saying it that way :)

pornguy 07-01-2010 12:28 PM

Affiliate Manager and I am an Internet Architect and Web real estate placement specialist.

ShellyCrash 07-01-2010 12:37 PM

I don't consider myself a pornographer. I've worn a shitload of hats but as of yet I've never produced adult content. I don't have a problem saying I'm in adult, if someone called me a pornographer I wouldn't be insulted or offended, but to call myself a pornographer I feel takes away from the people in the trenches- those who go out, wrangle the talent, and produce the product.

yeah, you are a pornographer the same way a clerk at a sex shop is.

i consider myself a videographer

Sabby 07-01-2010 01:18 PM

do you want me to say it?

how??

I am a cam whore...???

ok I can only be a whore if I am paid for my service..

if I flash my ass for free I am not a whore.. (this would make me a slut.. personally I frown upon sluts I rather be a whore...)
