Cheap Flying : no seats and pay toilets ?

made jokes a few years back ... but ... some are looking into it ...:

No frills, no seats: Ryanair's latest cost-cutting plan

Plans to get rid of seats and introduce pay-toilets by the budget airline will not happen for at least two years, say safety officials

Plans by Ryanair to introduce standing room on its aircraft will not happen for at least two years and may never materialise if the airline fails to meet stringent European safety requirements.

The budget airline's boss, Michael O'Leary, will talk about his plans to replace 10 rows of seats with a standing area as well as introducing a coin-operated toilet on some planes in an interview on ITV's How to Beat the Budget Airlines tonight.

If this had been posted on April 1st rather than July 1st I would assume it was a joke.

They'll never be able to do standing room due to the need to be strapped in and seated for take off, landing, and turbulance.

Anyone who's flown into vegas in the summer knows you hit a serious thermal pocket or whatever you're going to have people smacking the ceiling.

If it were pracitcal and not too tightly packed I would do it. No for international but for sure on domestic. I'd rather stand around for a few hrs like on a subway car then be crammed in a coach seat for hrs on end.

This is not an airline that operates in the USA and isnt subject to FAA ruling. Pay toilets were also outlawed in the USA during the Reagan era.

So relax, this airline will not be flying into Las Vegas, you will not have to stand, and you will not have to pay to poop.

I'm not worked up, was saying if there was a practical way to safely pull this off I'd be all for it as on domestic if given the choice I'd much rather stand.:2 cents:

next level will be travelling with goats and chickens, oh man ...

fatfoo 07-01-2010 12:27 PM

Birds can shit while they fly.
Humans must be trying to do the same thing.

btw, if it will be possible, it will be a real moneymaker ... do you imagine that adrenaline, book whole flight to make a bday party, excelent! :thumbsup

That would make sense for short haul travel. 1 hour max. Perfect for LA to San Fran/Oakland or NY to DC

Airlines besides Southwest crack me up.

Brilliant marketing - remove the seats!

Kiopa_Matt 07-01-2010 12:48 PM

Might work for two weeks, until several people sue because of some sore neck, or some shit.

No way it's sustainable though, and I'm surprised they're even investing into looking into it.

Talking point for a nice bit of free publicity.

They obviously are making far too much :2 cents:

It makes me laugh because the tax on some flights or the extra baggage fees, You end up paying full whack :(

I thought the à la carte method was a pretty good idea. Charge for bags, weight, etc. I don't travel with much, I guess that's why I liked it. Everybody else hated it.
