Reports in Israel's media have claimed Android product manager Gavreb Jain, on a visit to the country, confirmed that a download service and a new Android OS will debut in time for the US holiday season.

He is also reported to have said that music will be a major part of the new iteration of Android.

Google announced in May that it had acquired Simplify Media and was planning a cloud-based streaming music solution. This followed Apple's acquisition of streaming company Lala in December.

Recent reports have surfaced suggesting that Google will also expand last year's OneBox initiative. Instead of pointing music-based searches, however, to third-parties like Pandora and MySpace, Google will handle all the fulfillment itself on an à la carte basis to be followed by a subscription service at some point in 2011.

To a huge number of people Google is the internet.

GooglePorn.com is theirs as well as GoogleMusic.com and i'm sure their reputation wouldn't really be damaged by something 'tasteful' along the lines of Playboy.

Everybody that I know that would possibly be interested already has an Iphone and uses itunes. A bit like how everybody I know that might have been interested in using Bing already used Google and didn't feel the motivation to simply change for change's sake.

I am interested Sarah. I don't have or want an iPhone. I have an Android phone. There are others like me :)

I buy all my music from Amazon... DRM free, faster download times, and I like the company and the services they provide. I don't share my MP3s, I just want to be able to consume what I rightfully paid for how I want, when I want... I'm sure this is an aim of Google's as well. I'm definitely interested in hearing more...
