Good Canon Lens? Need tips or advice!!
I bought myself a Canon T2I, and have the following 2 lenses:
18-55mm Kit lens (going to liquidate for cheap) 18-135mm lens (bought on advice from another gfy thread) I'm looking to pick up a 50mm F1.4, but wondered if I should skip it, and just buy the 70-200mm L series... I was going to use the 50mm for portrait type pictures, but noticed the gorgeous model pics some of the content providers have posed that used the 70-200mm.... Figured that the 70-200mm would be a very versatile lens... good for both portraits, family photos, pictures of paintings, etc, as well as the nice telephoto aspect.... Does anybody have tips or recommendations on how I should flush out my collection?? This is for 'general use'... |
i love my t2i, got it about a month and a bit ago.
here are the lenses i got, love everyone of them 18-55mm standard zoom 10-20mm ultra wide zoom 100mm macro lens 18-135mm standard zoom 70-300mm telephoto zoom |
Affordable starting lenses:
Sigma 18-50 2.8 Sigma 50-150 2.8 L series glass is nice, really nice, but overkill for most usage these days. The Canon 10-20 mentioned above is really nice, too, especially for a cropped sensor camera, but there are alternatives to that as well. If you want shallow depth of field on your video go with an f1.8 lens. f1.4 lenses are exponentially more expensive. Enjoy the purchase! |
I'd say stick with Canon lenses. Sigma is good for the price but they are built like shit. I had 3 Sigma lenses that all fell apart.
Depending on what you are gonna be shooting I'd say go with Canon 17-40mm Best all around lense, nice and wide and cheap.. my most used lense Canon 24-70mm Good lense but I like wide better but with this and the 70-200mm you will be covered all the way through Canon 70-200mmf2.8 is the best lense you can buy but its a zoom lennse and really pricey. It all depends if you need a fast lense like that. Hope this helps! |
can't go wrong with the 70-200 2.8
|
With that T2I, can you use the LCD screen to compose your shot? Or is it viewfinder only?

70-200 L f.4 its an amazing lens some say its sharper than the 2.8. I sold mine and kick myself for doing that.

The 70-200 L IS f2.8 II is very very good. For portrait I would always prefer my 50mm or 80mm L f1.2
The f1.2 lenses are very expensive though, the 1.4 will be enough usually... But if you need to choose one, get the 70-200 first, just make sure it's the II (new version). It's auto focus is amazing... |

My friend has a 50mm for her Nikon. Because of its lack of versatility unless you want to really pursue headshots / portraiture I would skip it. :2 cents: |

L series is overkill on a Rebel:2 cents:

70-200 on a crop body sucks IMO. Far too narrow to be useful indoors but ok for the beach. I would recommend the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 You can get one used for about $300, a constant 2.8 is awesome and it rivals any L glass lens for sharpness, colors and IQ. Only downside is its AF isnt too fast, so its not ideal for kids or sports. Models standing still is no problem though.
