Luck Be A Lady I've Got You Under My Skin The Lady Is A Tramp I Get A Kick Out Of You Summer Wind All Or Nothing At All Mack The Knife |
I have always liked Dean Martin better but if I had to pick one it would be I've Got You Under My Skin.
|
Luckily none...
|
Summer Wind is also prob my fav Mutt :thumbsup Still a great song all these years later.
Def like a little Frank once in a while. funky little arrangement for the time another great one couldnt find the best (Capitol) vers or any early vers but this is a real similiar arrangement - Live Kiel Center - Saint Louis Oct 21, 1994 nice song took a while but, found a vers with great fidelity |
Start spreadin' the newss
|
As Frank would say, "Lets keep it going baaabee"
(I would smile but keeping it stoic in tribute to "the greatest generation" :winkwink: ) Everyone's favs coming at ya also love this show and great song classic very nice little song :thumbsup never heard this one before nice :thumbsup only ever heard jimmy buffet's before great version too, nice fidelity, must be remastering on many of these i really like this too (Frank: "cap version too baaaabee") love this too (bobby darin wrote this and i believe this is the earliest frank vers with frank and bobby) Nice choises all :thumbsup |
oop missed one, great song
good stuff, more enjoyable every time I hear them :) |
There are too many to choose but right now "Fly Me To The Moon" is at the top of my list.....and anything he did with the Ratpack.

The difference between then and today is that every one of those Rat Packers was an all-around consumate entertainer -- they could all dance, act, do standup, sing, you name it. Very few celebrities today have that kind of versatility. Eddie Murphy comes to mind, and up until recently Patrick Swayze, certainly Bette Middler, but of those only Middler really comes close to Sinatra & co. Expand your horizons and get some culture. Gotta love you some Sinatra. |
great early version
Frank: "Give em hell CD" :) hehe Agreed man, Frank was cool. It is def a big band sound and I normally am not a real big fan of big band as I'm sure most of the young gen isnt, but Frank cuts thru. Good music is good music and to me it sounds good. :) Frank's music was the "hard stuff" of that day and it def has an edge (for that day) and thus carries well to younger gens. The musicians were very talented and the horns are great. Plus Frank can flat out sing, esp in his earlier days, of course. A unique singing style that really cant be duplicated. This thread may never see 100 imps :) but i'm making us a good Sinatra thread to save. :winkwink: |
I love his version of the Lady is a Tramp
|
Summer wind, Something stupid, I got you under my skin.
Now, those who posted here, tell me why do you hate Celine Dion then? |

I dont know what that has to do with Frank except I assume that she has done those songs or that you think most people dont like her? :helpme :) |
And I LOVED her on We Are The World 2 when Lionel Richie is gesturing and pointing at her to hit it just perfect and she nails it. Love that kind of shit. No she is prob one of the best technical singers around. Very professional.
Celine Dion :thumbsup I just love music. If I may say so, I feel I know more about classic rock and 70's music than anyone on this board. And I can compete in the 80's. cause I know a couple 80's guys around here. :) And if they think they know more. Posts some rare 70's and 80's (or whatever) vids in music threads. I'll always back ya up with a few. :) Nah, there are a couple guys who also know music. I got to have my music man. If you think I am gonna spend all day everyday reading wm bs forget about it. :) |
I will admit tho after a few Frank songs I am ready for Eddie V to plug in the guitar :)
The Way You Look Tonight is a very nicely done tune ahead of it's years I feel. That and Summer Wind. Frank: koo koo baby |
"That's Life" and "This Town" are my two favorites. You really can't listen to these lyrics and not feel better about your situation:
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king. I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing: Each time I find myself, flat on my face, I pick myself up and get back in the race. |

But I think she is amazing. Thats said because mostly GFYers tend to act bro style no CEline Dion its ghey, but hey, using your language listening to Sinatras romantic songs is gheysh too, no? I expected Metallica and Kiss thread not Sinatra. |

i'll guarantee you every major rockstar has huge respect or is a Sinatra fan. great musicians recognize other great musicians.
dunno about rap musicians, debatable if what they do is really music plus there is a cultural divide. |
|
Don't have one, I love all his work, especially the period with the Rat Pack.
|
Come Fly Away and Luck Be A Lady. The Rat Pack was and is the epitome of "cool"
The Chairman rules -- I saw a movie the other day with him and Groucho Marx Sinatra looked like he was 20 years old... |
this one reminds me of all the women he had :)
3rd fav nice find nice song |
Early ones from the Capitol years
nice find on a great early song |
My Way, New York, New York, Strangers In The Night as well
|
Hey Spunk, agreed, My Way needs to be included. I always find it kind of sad how it starts but it really is a hell of a song.
nice version and slide show someone put together That early Capitol stuff is great isn't it. I have The Capitol Years 3 disc box set I am putting onto my puter today. I've never listened to them all yet. 75 early songs and well worth having. Maybe I can find some more exceptional early Capitol stuff. |
"When I was 17 it was a very good year" Frank was 17 in late 1932. (born Dec 12, 1915 Hoboken, New Jersey)
"When I was 21 it was a very good year" It was late 1936. Tough years. Great Depression. More early Capitol. exceptional remaster Most of the early Capitol stuff appears to be on YT :) |

How many have heard of Ervin Drake? He wrote it :) and that was recorded in 1965 surprisingly. for anyone who wants to post a vid just add youtube EMBED CODE /youtube with brackets around youtube (I posted that vid above :) ) here's Johnny Carson's fav song : ) |
when I was 21
it was a very good year it was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stair with all that perfumed hair and it came undone when I was 21 but now the days are short i'm in the autumn of the year and now i think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs from the brim to the dregs it poured sweet and clear it was a very good year Ervin Drake (best version) |
Under My Skin & My Way.
