You have some good points in there and to be honest "sadly" not many on GFY will bother to read it although they should to remove some of the dark GFY cloud we have been seeing in here for a while now.

Just read it for the first time, and oddly enough i was discussing the exact same points 24 hours later on here: http://www.gfy.com/17323394-post54.html even using the analogy of a "perfect storm". I had to check the dates to make sure you didn't read mine first for inspiration:winkwink: but you beat me by one day. However we discuss the same points I do disagree on people spending more time on social networking, games, etc causing porn sales to drop.

Good speech Steve and thank you for sharing it. Thanks to this industry, in 2007 I was able to fly home for my grandfathers suprise 80th birthday (and pay for part of it), and again one year later to say goodbye as he passed in front of me. Sometimes we forget to be grateful for what we have been given and need to stop and smell the flowers once inwhile.

Been several reports that have shown social network, games, etc have hurt - us all - these people do not need to "come online" to use those services, they do not remember who we are when they're locked away in other worlds.

A single game like WoW is larger than the top 10 porn companies stacked on top of each other - and that's just one game, 24/7... with more people in the game right now than we have available buyers to the online porn industry - again that's 1 game vs. an entire industry.

It isn't just causing porn sales to drop, it has split the Internet and slowed global sales down as well.

At least with phone technology, people can still buy from us - problem with phones (social stuff) is unless they're looking for us, we aren't selling them anything - we're losing our ability to reach the people and our ego is being a douche telling us the world will find us when that isn't true.

WOW was huge 10+ years ago.

Link to these several reports? Would love to see some statistics to show how Porn sales have dropped because people are playing games more or on social networks more.

LOL the christian right will be thrilled, all this time all they had to do was get people hooked on WOW and facebook and everyone would stop jerking off and looking at porn. :upsidedow

Exactly... wow was huge 10 years ago, this is how long it has slowly been ripping away at us and today WoW is still really fucking huge. And it's just one, of literally 1,000's of online games, let alone what sites like Facebook have in it that report insane play hours and what mobile devices offer, equally with insane play hours. 10 years has only compounded the issue 100's of times over and it's getting worse.

Porn is part of the Internet...it's not subject to any different statistical trends than the rest of the Internet. If globally they can see peoples surfing times and what they surf change, for the entire globe - it damn sure means it changed for porn too. A very large number of reports have talked about the social trends of online sites, games, mobile devices, etc that have pulled people for countless hours, days, months and years away from the normal buying cycles, surfing habits and even life habits changed drastically. It's not a question of, has it affected things - it's a question of how much it has.

I don't need reports created uniquely for our Industry to be able to see the global traffic and exposure for our Industry has greatly dropped... I can see the answer to why simply by looking at what the entire Internet is actually doing.
