Ccbill High Risk Regions? - You'll Be Surprised!
Got an email from a potential customer yesterday informing me that his credit card was declined by CCBILL because he is trying to join from a "High Risk" region.
I asked him where he was from and he said New Zealand! - I didn't believe that CCBILL would decline a potential client from NZ but they did indeed decline. NEW ZEALAND????.... Why or How is New Zealand deemed high risk? This is insane.... Where are they going to start declining from next?.. Tell me it ain't so??? Terry www.projectvoyeur.com |
Hum I didn't know they did that. Do you get confirmation emails when someone signs up or gets declined? What did that say?
Mark |
Its not that suprising..
Go try some of the major programs from other countries using proxies.. Heck some only take USA and consider the rest of the world, yes even Canada and England, high risk enough not to take transactions from those areas. Chris |
"We currently do not process transactions from your banks bin.." - this is in the decline email and a rep from CCBILL confirmed that they do not process for New Zealanders! :-(
Terry |
Most processors have about 40+ countries banned. As well many have 1 or more banks in non banned countries blocked. Most have the major bank in Germany blocked but the other 2 larger banks are not.

second, good morning third, that does not mean that we do not process for New Zealand. It means that we have gotten a lot of chargebacks (relative to signups) from that particular bank and have decided to block all transactions from cards with that bin. Maybe there are flyers going around the neighborhood explaining how easy it is to get your $ back ;) If they use a card from an issuing bank that is 20 miles away, it might work fine |
Strange that there would be so many chargebacks from one bank in New Zealand of all places.
|
Thanks for clearing that up Corevett.... but maybe it would be wise to inform all your webmaster clients just what banks are banned?
This week I got about 700 valid signups and about 400 decline signups across my CCBILL acounts. Seems like declines have risen quite significantly since the whole visa shit happened... Even strange is that I actually now have current customers who can no longer re-subscribe to my site because CCBILL declines them? - How shitty is that? - They signed up last year and when it is time to renew they cannot???? Is it possible for CCBILL to send a list of banks, institutions and regions that are banned from processing? - At least this way we don't waste admin time trying to resolve failed signup issues with "customers" who just aren't going to be able to join! At least this way the webmasters don't appear to be as "in-the-dark" about join problems as the customers themselves! I do like CCBILL, I think they are the best out of a bad bunch but the whole scrubbing issue seems to be a bit of a black art! Terry www.projectvoyeur.com |
ccbill won't accept any cards from me and i'm in canada. maybe they have canada as a high risk country.
|
better off asking which banks they do accept cards from
|
Supplying companies (Sponsored Merchants of IPSP's) with Bank Bins which are blocked would provide you no benefit as you are not supposed to collect any cardholder data, therefore you can't read the bin of the cardholders card and redirect prior to the purchase process.
Blocking bins within countries is a normal practice. Bins are used to identify banks, many banks have many Bins. Unfortunately some banks and the associated bins have different chargeback policies than other banks in the same country or region and they typically chargeback at a significantly higher rate, some of which chargeback with no contact from the cardholder. Seems like declines have risen quite significantly since the whole visa shit happened... * We got pretty much the same percentages of declines lately.. rising, and not just CCBill, but over a range of processors. Also confirm an increase on declining members on recurring billing. Welcome to the effects of "rules" from VISA and whatever else!:( |
Im high risk

Oh shit! Now I know how members feel trying to sign up - my VISA card is getting rejected when I try to renew domain names!
This is not a "service", more a pain in the ass. (The card is fine and never been refused by the registrar before). Domain renewals must be "high risk" now:Graucho This is going to be a "fun" year all round. By the way.. anyone getting emails from members asking why their cards are being refused? Getting an increasing amount here now... |

*gonna have to offer different ways to pay. paypal could be the best bet if you're not offering it now.* Yup! Got a selection of payment options in the background and ready for a total change in the way members pay. Hell knows how that pattern will turn out. I think there is going to be a shakeup this year and some processors will disappear - it is not a good time in that biz. |
Thanks Clay

Insufficient funds declines did increase last week, but that is normal due to Christmas |

Like KK once said, if you have a credit card, you need to pay the bill somehow. You most likely have a bank account to send the check out of to pay the credit card bill... Send the cc declines to an online check signup page, if that doesn't work, send them to a dialer/900, if they dont want that, you might be able to salvage the cost of the bandwidth they used to get through the tour by send them to a '4free' program that pays for emails |
Since it is us webmasters that keep the CC processors in business why is it unrealistic for them to at least consider informing webmasters of "non processing regions" etc so that the webmasters can work pro-actively at exploring other ways of making money from traffic.
It seems these processors hold all the cards and hold them all very close to their chests! Why not be a bit more open?... There is no mention of HIGH risk regions in the CCBILL documentation and/or we have not been informed via an email newsletter.... And WHY are we all getting more and more declines? - We all have our ideas but why don't the CC processors tell us straight? Terry |
Corvett, if a CC is declined then the best thing to do is send to PAYPAL.... we get ZERO problems with chargebacks, failed signups etc with paypal... it's just a shame that not as many people have paypal accounts that have CC accounts....
P.S - thank for the information with regards to declines but to be honest with you mate I can't believe that.... and i don't think many other webmasters will believe that either.... everybody has seen a phenomenal increase in declines over the past 6 months or so ... Where do you get your data from Corvett?.. Maybe you could show us your stats on that?.... hehehehe Regards Terry |

Before the change, if a customer had gotten declined and retried a few times with the same information, it would only report the initial decline. After, the webmaster would get notified for each and every attempt and subsequent decline?and some surfers try 4-6 times with the same info Nothing that affects real sales figures, just reporting. That might be part of what you are talking about?or, as far as CCBill is concerned, at least something to take into consideration Quote:

Hi Corvett
"crystal ball, just like the other processors" Now that's what I thought!! :Graucho But CCBill have been near the top with us on a decent service and well above many others and at least they talk as opposed to those who issue a load of political statements that say nothing :) Just gazing into my crystal ball here and contemplating the next card processing saga :Graucho |

If you notice something that looks strange, investigate it. Call up your sales rep and look at it together. You have the decline statistics on your reports page. You can see the reasons yourself. You have the tools to investigate it. If you see a problem, find out what?s causing it. This is a business like any other out there. As I mentioned above about the reporting change, one of our larger clients called me up when all of the sudden his declines went up. Sales were about the same. I looked at it, compared different days, and decided that it did not look right and found out the reason for it...that is how I knew. He didn?t seem to mind it at all, but rather than sit there and think ?This processor is all of the sudden declining all of my sales to line their pockets with more $ and protect themselves?, he found out the reason. GirlsFreePics, what makes sense to you? We charge our accounts based on a %, not off of the number of transactions that get declined. Terry, I have some time now, ICQ me and lets look at your declines :) 45471840 |
