Not a fan of the photo effects.

ottopottomouse 07-14-2010 10:48 AM

I like the first picture a lot but the green two look very artificial.

lagwagon 07-14-2010 01:17 PM

Your part of the world looks a little too oversaturated for my snowblind eyes.

seems to be a calm place out there...

Beautiful stuff! A bit overdone, though. Would love to see closer to the 'original' pictures.

Me too.
The first two looks to be pictures of Fall in Napa Valley and not Summer pictures.

This is pretty much how the originals look. They were all cross-processed--shot on slide film then developed in the chemistry for negative film, which yields a negative where the colors are shifted. I used a Hasselblad XPan camera which can shoot panoramics, so there was very little cropping done even.

The first two photos were shot on Fuji slide film, which tends to amp red and orange. The bottom two were shot on Kodak VS100, which favors greens and seems to often create over-exposed looking yellows. I choose the film depending on the time of year (the first two images were shot in the fall, the last two in the spring), or the colors of the subject. The process is highly variable; I get different looks from different labs, and even from expired film versus new film.

There was very little Photoshop work done on them--levels and sharpening mostly, though the first image was toned down as I thought the colors were too bright and saturated.

Here?s a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge where the colors aren?t so popped?
