How much do you pay for milk?

Per Gallon or equivalent, the last time you purchased it. I'm curious as to how much it varies across the US and the rest of the world.

$1.79-1.89 per gallon at the grocery store, is what I paid yesterday...which seems pretty low, but is consistant here.

We buy about 15 gallons each week. It's the worst thing for me to drink and I'd probably be so much better off without it, but for me nothing beats an iced cold glass of milk and a bag of Raspberry Milanos.

buck30 07-21-2010 09:27 AM

Phoenix, $1.69, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, $3.69.

The Truth Hurts 07-21-2010 09:28 AM

$3.79 this morning for a gallon of 2%
This after the store changed brands they carry last week becuase the previous brand (Hood) was $3.99 a gallon and they wanted to jack the price to $4.19.

alias 07-21-2010 09:28 AM

3.85 2 liters

Fuck is it good milk though.

Not organic or anything I think the dairy board in Canada fixes milk/cheese prices.

seeandsee 07-21-2010 09:29 AM

1 liter = 0.75$, too much !

Tom_PM 07-21-2010 09:33 AM

I paid $1.68 the other night for 1/2 gallon of 1% milk. Gallon was $2.19. Woulda got it, but when you're on foot, you must consider the weight of what you buy. A half gallon lasts me 2 weeks anyway.

Roby 07-21-2010 09:37 AM

0,7$ litr

grumpy 07-21-2010 09:40 AM

what ever you pay its not enough. we pay around a euro a liter

Scott McD 07-21-2010 09:44 AM

woj 07-21-2010 09:50 AM

TurboAngel 07-21-2010 09:54 AM

Last week it was $2.99 a gallon.

Amputate Your Head 07-21-2010 09:54 AM

On Maui, it was $9 bucks. That's why I left.

pimp3611 07-21-2010 09:56 AM

I bought a bottle of organic chocolate milk last week for $6.49 (CND)

Ridiculous I know but I had to try it.

Choopa Phil 07-21-2010 09:57 AM

2.49/gallon here. 5+ for organic 1/2 gallon

Yep. It's nuts. I grabbed 2 gallons yesterday afternoon and they are both pretty much empty. So I'll probably buy 2 more today. 2 tomorrow and then 4 more when I shop for the week on Sunday.

I have 2 babies, so that accounts for a big part of it. I can bust through a gallon myself in 24 hours if there are enough cookies or cupcakes in house.

I was expecting to see a high price or two in Hawaii.

CaptainHowdy 07-21-2010 10:07 AM

$ 1 USD more or less around here...

Frasier 07-21-2010 10:10 AM

2.89 for non fat milk at Sams Club. 3.49-3.69 at groceries.

South West Georgia, USA

Why don't you just buy yourself a cow?

mikke 07-21-2010 10:14 AM

1l = $0.54, europe :)

Sly 07-21-2010 10:15 AM

I pay around $4.50 for half a gallon. Kind of drives me crazy that lactose free milk is so much more expensive, but whatever, at least I can finally have cereal for breakfast!

Yuck. I'm very picky with my milk. I drink only 2% and only out of my fridge once it reaches a certain temp. On top of it, I have issues with dairy and my already fucked up digestive system. But I love my milk.

I don't think I could stomach the fresh stuff, right from the cow.

I'd love to have a cow though. We're trying to buy 12 acres right now and that would be something I could see for sure.

You want to be awake and home every morning at 5 a.m. and every afternoon at 5 p.m. to milk one cow?

pornguy 07-21-2010 10:22 AM

If I buy the gallon here its 7.50 when they have it.

quiet 07-21-2010 10:25 AM

i have no idea. we only buy the super small cartons for cooking. don't drink milk at all.

fatfoo 07-21-2010 10:28 AM

Usually a grocery store does not sell human milk.
It could be profitable.

Tom_PM 07-21-2010 10:36 AM

If you get a cow for milk, it has to be pregnant a lot to be producing milk. So you're talking a much larger thing than just having a cow in a big field. Need to get it laid, then have a plan for calves, then repeat forever to get milk forever.

There's got to be a reason for having all these kids. Maybe milking the cow is it. :1orglaugh

I'm the same exact way. I was allergic to dairy until I was about 15 and I think I drink so much milk now to make up for lost time.

I only buy milk when it's on sale and pay around $2 per gallon.

ProG 07-21-2010 01:04 PM

$6.80/gallon

over38 07-21-2010 01:21 PM

About $2.00-2.50 / Gallon In Michigan and when i am in Texas around $3.00

atom 07-21-2010 01:27 PM

I have a 15 year old son so we through around 10 gallons per week.

Minneapolis
$1.89 per gallon at the grocery store.
3 gas stations in town sell it for 2 gallons for $5.50, get 10th gallon free.

Yngwie 07-21-2010 01:54 PM

$3.99 to $5+

leedsfan 07-21-2010 02:09 PM

I drink unpasteurized milk, straight from Jersey cows. It's the best. Haven't had a cold or been sick for 2 years and counting since I started. Fuck does it taste good too. Cost is $7.50 for 2 liters. Expensive, but you get what you pay for, and in this case its preservative free, and growth hormone free real milk.
Added to that I make cheese from the milk I get...

LeRoy 07-21-2010 02:12 PM

Under 3 bucks here in LA. I get non fat.

tranza 07-21-2010 02:20 PM

I have no idea, it's been years since I last drank milk.

Topbuxom Lea 07-21-2010 02:21 PM

Organic only and it's about 4.89 a freakin gallon in Tucson

strobi 07-21-2010 02:23 PM

2.2$-ish a gallon, low fat milk.

fatfoo 07-21-2010 02:24 PM

If you buy a whole cow and milk it every day, it could be cheaper in the long term.
The cow is a lot of hassle for maintenance.

Jdoughs 07-21-2010 02:35 PM

We pay $4-$5 a gallon here. And we used to go through a gallon for breakfast everyday, and another during the course of the day when all 5 kids lived at home still.

Now there's 3 left and its about a bag a day (gallon roughly)

All our kids are/were milk junkies.
