Editing FLV video files. What do you use?

What do you guys use to edit FLV files? I just need to lop off some of the beginning/end of some videos. Nothing more complicated than that. I don't want to convert from FLV to another format and back.

Can't you set your in & out points in Flash?

Possibly. I have Flash CS5, but never used it. The last time I used Flash myself was when all it did was make lame animations :) I will try it. Thanks.

I know you said you didn't want to do a bunch of format conversions, but let me ask, what format are the vids that you have in before they become FLV? (or did you get them as FLVs?) Can you go back to the app for the original format, trim and re-save? (for example, Final Cut or Premiere)? Then re-batch to FLV?

I guess it would depend on how many you need to do. Probably not practical if you need to edit a thousand vids.

(just thinking out loud here.)

The originals are FLV format unfortunately. A lot of the videos have dead time at the end (and some the beginning) that I want to remove.

I found a command line tool called FLVParser that lets you break up large FLV files into several smaller files based on cue-points. I may be able to get a programmer to create a web based solution using this code. Then I can hire someone to sit all day and trim videos.

Moyea is a simple tool to use and it allows you to do that as well as water mark and lots of other things.

Thanks, downloading the trial now.

Moyea uses FFmpeg which only supports the MUCH older Sorenson Spark FLV codec, so if you do any re-encoding it'll make your videos look much worse.

Without re-encoding you can only chop off at keyframes (the FLVParser thing), which may not occur any closer than every 3-10 seconds. It all depends on your source clips, but that's the better approach if it works for you.

I cut off about 5 seconds of video at the beginning of the clip I tested with Moyea and was able to output it without any re-encoding. I still may make a custom web based solution that works like FLVParser.

Thanks for the advice.

If you don't want to do them yourself, shoot me an e-mail and we can arrange a cheap price.
