Sitting Linked to Dying Early

I posted a similar story a while back, but here is one from today:

Sitting around too much in one's spare time appears to increase the risk of dying, regardless of physical activity, researchers found.

*WARNING!* Existing will result in death. Live at your own risk.

So old people only die because they sit around too much watching daytime TV then.

Brujah 07-23-2010 11:22 AM

Damn, so being in a wheelchair automatically gives you 14 years left?

No doubt standing too much would be linked to dying early too. You can't win.

We'll all die eventually. One way or another. So why worry about stupid shit??

I certainly don't wanna live to such an old age that i can't even look after myself properly and do things on my own. I don't want anyone to have to look after me. I'll happily go before i get anywhere near that stage...

If sitting causes early death, then are the bedridden people that can't even sit up, are they safe? They aren't technically "sitting", they'd be lying down.

I've always wondered whether bedridden people are actually likely to last longer due to the amount of care given and the likelihood of anything they could catch that is going to finish them off being treated in time.

I don't really understand the 14 year deal they talk about, that's just weird. But constant sitting really is a big deal for people in wheelchairs obviously. Can cause blood clots easier, which of course will lead to stroke and heart attack. It's one of the reasons people in wheelchairs often have much shorter lives.

I recently bought this product to help me out. No idea how much of a difference it will make in the long term, but I can definitely see and feel day to day differences.
