Obamas Summer Of Recovery?

Looks like we are up a little but things are slowing down.

The economy has grown since last summer, but the pace of growth is slowing. The government is scheduled Friday to release an estimate of gross domestic product, the broadest measure of the economy's output, for the April-June period. Economists forecast it will show growth slowed to a 2.5 percent annual rate, down from 2.7 percent in the first quarter and 5.6 percent in last year's fourth quarter.

The number of people continuing to claim unemployment benefits rose by 81,000 to 4.57 million. That doesn't include an additional 3.67 million of the unemployed that are receiving extended benefits paid for by the federal government.

GrouchyAdmin 07-29-2010 09:14 AM

The only thing up in this economy is foreclosures.

adultebusiness 07-29-2010 09:14 AM

I'm frankly scared.

Vendzilla 07-29-2010 09:16 AM

let the spin begin

It's funny that those on this forum will back their views by bringing up Bush, or saying it would have been worse under McCain, but they never say whats going right with Obama, is it because of the slim pickings of good news or good leadership?

What scares me is that I did expect nice growth this summer, with slight inflation next year. Now we have no growth and inflation next year? The government is dumping a shit load of money into the economy this summer. If Im correct, most of the stimulus package and its not working.

Everyone is scared shitless to hire. They know new taxes are coming in 2011 and do not want to be holding the bag with their tax bills and other regulations.

Historically, the economy will recover regardless of the what the government does, Obama I think banked on that to pay for his agenda, but his agenda is whats scaring anyone from hiring

IllTestYourGirls 07-29-2010 09:47 AM

Strange not to many replies to this.

The Demon 07-29-2010 11:03 AM

The only real growth comes from expansion of the manufacturing/private sectors. The growth we have had, if any, is purely artificial. The left continues to spin the truth but less and less Americans are buying their bullshit.

And growing! I saw on the news this morning that Vegas is at the top of this list, along Florida and Arizona. Homes are emptying out all around us in our neighborhood. Hopefully this will change.

We are not spending at all, only the things we need and that is it ;)

Yet people REFUSE to drop the price of those homes.

cambaby 07-29-2010 11:32 AM

Politicians have continued to push the debt away from consumers to buy votes on both sides of the isle, corporate america is now paying for that and they are the ones who will dictate when this economy gets back on track. Yes consumer spending drives the economy but if consumers dont have jobs or their tax bills are through the roof and if they cant afford the goods that corporations are increasing the prices on then we are in a slow downward spiral.

I completely understand what Obama was counting on but he made enemies of big corporations and you cant do that without some blow back, he is feeling it now.

MrBottomTooth 07-29-2010 11:34 AM

I blame Bush.

$5 submissions 07-29-2010 11:36 AM

Aren't there plans for another round of stimulus spending? What happened to that? What are the chances of it producing different results from the prior round(s)?

TheDoc 07-29-2010 11:40 AM

Not bad at all, at least things are still growing, slow or not. If I remember correctly the last quarter shot up so much because of a few of the Gov programs, so it was expected to come down this time.

I'm not scared at all.... Yes, some things still suck but overall we're at the best point we have been in years.

I know, the banks could care less and if the government does not jump in, I think it will only get worse.

Now, on another note....something that really chaps my nuts is our home used to have a value of around 260K, now the home is worth 138K and dropping, but we still have to pay taxes on the 260K and not the 138K which is present day value.

We called our homeowners insurance to find out what they will pay if the home burns or has to be replaced...guess what? If the home burns and has to be rebuilt, the insurance is only going to pay the present day value, but yet I am paying insurance on the value of 260K, which would leave us holding the bag for the remainder of the money.

This shit is criminal, no doubt. We are going to discuss this with an attorney and see what can be done. Beings we pay the insurance separate, we may just stop until they pull their heads out of their criminal asses.

We should just get up and walk away, but we like the home, even though we are taking a killing, but there has to be some point when I or others just say fuck the bank and move on. It truly is a sad state of affairs for many people in this country.

Doesn't matter if it will help or not. They will use phrases like "saved or created..." "it would have be worse..." you know things that can not be proven.

I switched insurance companies on my home and I paid an extra monthly fee to lock in my home value for 5 years(which I thought was very generous) considering home prices plummeting still to this day you better switch companies and stop the bleeding before its too late because the value wont go up for 10 years at least.

again, you just dont get it...

but, i am going to keep repeating this until you do..

THE PROBLEM IS CONGRESS... IT DOES NOT MATTER WHO IS IN OFFICE... REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT... GET RID OF CONGRESS AND MAYBE THINGS WILL GET BETTER...

with that being said, our economy is fucked.. there will be no recovery in the foreseeable future.. these economic morons continue to base decisions on economic models of 70-100 years ago.. we are a global economy and things are different now..

if you want to turn the economy around, get out of the wars in iraq and afghanistan, cut govt bullshit spending, and create jobs..

quit giving money to people that dont want to work.. let them die, leave the country, or end up in prison... i would rather pay for a lazy person to be in prison locked up then on the street doing nothing on my dime.. plus, they're probably too lazy to commit a crime anyway..

You've lost your mind, considering statistically, we are the worse we've been in years. It's gotten so bad that a few years ago, the unemployment statistics had to be revamped. Now we all know you're a retarded liberal but lying to yourself isn't going to change facts.

there you go thinking I don't get it
Yes, it's not just the president, how many times have I stated that the Democrats ran on CHANGE in 06 and won, then we got change, the whole economy went to shit.

I'm totally against the wars, both of them, we have no business being there, we can't afford it and we can't win it, it's an occupation now

I'm very very against a bigger government, how many times have I stated that the government has grown over 25% in the last 18 months and who's going to pay for that?

they are basing economic strategy on what they used during the great depression, which most believe prolonged it,

so who the hell do you have me confused with?

We are on it and the next step is to go after the city for over paying taxes ;)
