U.S. To Train 3,000 Offshore IT Workers
Wow, this little news nugget is just PRICELESS during times like these. YOUR tax dollars hard at work training Sri Lankans to take YOUR job!
U.S. To Train 3,000 Offshore IT Workers $22 million, federally-backed program aims to help outsourcers in South Asia become more fluent in areas like Java programming?and the English language. By Paul McDougall InformationWeek August 3, 2010 01:59 PM Despite President Obama's pledge to retain more hi-tech jobs in the U.S., a federal agency run by a hand-picked Obama appointee has launched a $22 million program to train workers, including 3,000 specialists in IT and related functions, in South Asia. Following their training, the tech workers will be placed with outsourcing vendors in the region that provide offshore IT and business services to American companies looking to take advantage of the Asian subcontinent's low labor costs. ..continued |

479.000 jobless claims in the USA this week and The Poser sends 3,000 jobs offshore AND provides free training!: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/...ag=mncol;lst;2 "AP) WASHINGTON (AP) - Initial requests for jobless benefits rose last week to their highest level since April, a sign that hiring remains weak and some companies are still cutting workers. The Labor Department said Thursday that new claims for unemployment insurance rose by 19,000 to a seasonally adjusted 479,000. Analysts had expected a small drop. Claims have risen twice in the past three weeks." Anyone who voted for the America Hating Poser should now be happy! They are reaping what they have sown! They should be ashamed of themselves! hmm that doesnt seem right

What the fuck?Massive outsourcing was one of reasons why crisis emerged in first place.
|
We should be paying these fuckers not to study Java and English.

Where is IW source for that story?
All other references I see to this issue are quoting IW. |
It's an investment in skills in a country that is 9½~12½hours ahead meaning they will do the overnight telephone support for America that nobody local actually wants to do as well as it being cheaper labour.

It's a scheme for big businesses to get cheap overseas programmers and not pay the rates Americans ones demand. It will be paid by the taxes of the middle classes. A socialist plot?? |

Ever tried getting night shift staff? Most flake out after not very long - in general people can't cope with being nocturnal. And you have to pay them more. Cheaper support staff who will be working daytime offset around the world make the product not have to be so expensive or make for bigger profits and larger shareholder dividends which are advantages that feed back to the US. Surely there is something in you being in the Czech Republic. How does your model cost compare to elsewhere? Can you then sell stuff easier for cheaper/make a better profit? Think about it from a business point of view rather than a political ranting standpoint. |
If you doubt IW, how about The Wall Street Journal as a credible source?
http://onespot.wsj.com/politics/2010...-000-offshore/ How about a US State Department press release?: http://srilanka.usembassy.gov/pr-2august10.html Sally. |
It sucks but it's logical too... I hire off shore people, I train them, etc. I get 3 for the price of 1, and 3 times the output and I'm able to reach into the markets they're in, cross language, cover more time zones, etc. Part of running a business today is out sourced staff, having a good setup supports the main corporation greatly, allowing it to grow and hire people that can't be out sourced. If I went the other direction, I would be short staff. Same if they spent this 22 million on America, they wouldn't get 3k people.

Bush would have done it, only twice as many. Seriously, as much as I hate globalization (it destroyed my career as a contract programmer), it simply cannot be stopped. Eventually, wages will rise everywhere and the competitive advantage enjoyed by places like this will dissapear. But it will be long after you and I are dead, so in the meantime, we are fucked. I hope the people responsible for this program get ass cancer and bleed to death - out their ass!

Obamanomics hard at work with the recovery act, spending your billions on other countries
And we can't get a fucking fence on the Mexican border And when I want to call for support on something, I have to talk to these fuckers |

Why don't we put that $22M into re-training our own un-employed people I would have loved to be a fly on the wall on the meeting where they decided on this program.
|
Let me guess, the guy approving this holds a share in the company (of course, not directly) that wins the contract to do said training ? :upsidedow

Obama said he was going to spread the wealth around, did you really think he meant to Americans?
An American collecting unemployment is still richer than an India answering phones. We are also funding a $500 million dollar GM plant in Mexico. |
Hang on just a damn minute...WE are going to train THEM for IT?
LOL! I thought they were a lot better than us at that kind of thing? Shouldn't they be training our guys instead of the other way around? |
