NBC's "Outsourced" Is racism making a come back?
Television is pathetic enough with all the sacarstic dry faced humor that seems to be in every single show, commercial and motion pictures. Seems that nobody knows how to write comedy and sarcasm is dominating the market place.
Now we have "Outsourced" NBC's new comedy based on a group of Indians (in India) doing phone sales, etc. Of course, they aren't using "real" Indians, but rather combo American Indian-ish actors (I guess America is not ready yet to see real Indians on tv.) The previews look like pure racism. A room full of Indians with their "White Master" in control telling them all how to act and speak like Americans do, while pointing out their differences and pretty much making fun of them. Sure it's funny when a stand up does some racial jokes, I think every race has it's ups and downs, but to base a television show on the format of "us" and "them" seems very racist. America really sucks when it comes to tv entertainment. If this show gets high ratings and isn't cancelled, I predict massive protests against NBC from a few groups. I can just picture a whole group of burned out angry writers creating this racist shit. The humor is for 14 years olds. "Hey, you fucking Indian, this is how you "say it!" oh gee, takes a real genious to write racist comedy. Those writers and producers should be ashamed of themselves. If you can't think of anything funny, then let's pick on the Indians...? Shows like this make me ashamed to be an American. http://www.nbc.com/outsourced/ Hire some real writers NBC. Comedy at the cost of a race is not comedy, it's called RACISM. There are other ways to make people laugh at themselves and the world around them.... It's called "comedy writing." Hire some real writers and you'll know the difference. |
Didn't Russell Peters (Indian-Canadian comic) have a comedy skit called Outsourced?
|
Indians are stupid.
|
that show looks funny
|
Kinda on the fence with that one. I had caught a few previews, and looks like it could be spun in either direction. Good or bad, on the topic of outsourcing.
|
If they used real Indians we wouldn't be able to understand what they say.

Hollywood has been like that for a while now. Cheap talent provides cheap jokes. |
jesus christ, grow a fucking pair already. Every damn thing in the world is not linked to racism. Have you ever been on the phone with one of these outsourced call centers? It's based on real-world. That's why it's funny.
|
Sounds like they're making a show based on reality. That stuff happens. Telemarketers in countries such as India are given different (non-Indian) names to use, taught how to speak differently, told to lie about where they're calling from etc...
|
That is racism?
|
Have you ever watched a single episode of Family Guy? It's entertainment, Amp is right grow a pair!

if one can't laugh at east indians what can you laugh at? lighten up.

.............

it is racism pure and simple.
Wouldn't be hearing "Grow a pair" if it was about blacks or Mexicans but Inidans are the new whipping boy and don't have the PR machine and backing like the other ethnic groups in this country |

# racist - based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks"
(I dont think it's this) # racist - a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others (a comedy show is not someones beliefs on display, I say it's not this) # racist - discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion (I suppose if a person were actually offended that their own race was being portrayed in such a way that the cummulative effect was discriminatory in their mind, then they could call it racism under this definition.) So, I think it's CONCEIVABLE that it's thought of as racist to the same people who think Don Rickles is racist. Or who think Futurama is racist based on Mr. and Mrs. Wong speaking in what americans would consider a humourously over the top fake chinese accent. |
In my experience people who cry the loudest online about racism are usually the same ones that laugh at racist jokes in public and don't have the gall to say anything.
I hope you guys are keeping it real and telling your boss or future father in law when courting how bad they are when they tell a racist joke. If you do, fair enough. If not, don't be an internet hero. |

Let's get rid of The Simpsons too. I'm offended that Apu is an indian working in a convenience store. The Simpsons is racist.

Some people need to brush up and refresh their memories of Archie Bunker & George Jefferson. Two shows that are real examples of racism on tv.
|
Some people take things too serious, whats wrong with a parody thats based on reality, Get a life people, no need to take everything serious as this.
Edit: You shouldn't be ashame of being an American, You should proud of it, You have such open society and thats cool... |

Let's get rid of rap videos. It's racist when one black person cannot speak and wants everyone to think that is how all black people talk and sound.
Let's cancel the Wendy Williams show. Some days she looks like a tranny and that is intolerant to the real trannies. I also want to get COPS canceled because it casts white people in the same way that it casts black people in rap videos. Actually, I am never stepping out into the world again or turning on my television or radio. It's all racist! |

Fact is, it's not racist when it's based on actual situations. To the OP: Fly to India, head to one of the North-American managed call centres and compare what you see there to NBC's show; then see if your comments make any sense. |
I like Reno 911 because it manages to make fun of EVERYONE in every episode.
Comedy is comedy. The other day someone stopped themselves before telling a gay joke and I could tell what they were doing and my response was "if it's funny, I want to hear it!" It was something along the lines of a gay couple adopting a baby after birth and they were in the nursery and another couple complimented them on how good their baby was. Their response was something like "pull the pacifier out of his ass and then see how he acts." I don't think it was as funny as good old bar stool jokes, but whatever. |

Saw a joke about same sex marriage. Person said, anyone who is married will tell you that the sex is always the same.
Ohhh the hatred contained in jokes makes me so mad! Destroy all comics!!! They're all scum :) |
What the hell is wrong with sarcasm and dry humor, anyway?

The sensitivity of so many people baffles me. Every race has STEREOTYPES and STEREOTYPES of all races/religions/sexual preferences dominate the entertainment industry as a whole.
As far as I can tell, this show plays on stereotypes...not racism. |
I'm certainly more on the left than I am on the right, and I happen to like dry humor. Besides, just about any kind of humor can be offensive.
