meteor shower tonight

Tonight the Perseids Meteor Shower will hopefully be one of the best meteor showers of 2010 due to a couple of facts; a stronger stream of meteoroids and minimal light in the sky from the Moon.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot this was tonight, sounds like a great night for them.

Tanker 08-12-2010 08:31 AM

Tom_PM 08-12-2010 01:37 PM

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are... nothing happens.

haha, just kidding. I'll be wishing upon them if I can see them. Good luck.

gmr324 08-12-2010 01:42 PM

anytime when its dark, preferably after midnight, give your eyes time to adjust, pupil dilation 5-10 mins and turn off all the lights including the neigbors lol :thumbsup

No worries there Casa-Del-Loki is out of town, away from all the lights out in the woods, can always see millions of stars (as long as the sky is clear)

I'm gonna try set up and catch some on camera if I can.

A meteor shower is an interesting sight.
Some say the surface of the moon has craters, because meteors crashed into the moon.

Highest Def 08-12-2010 09:27 PM

Just spent about 30 minutes laying down in the back yard. Saw a few little ones and a few really big, bright ones. You really just need to relax your vision and not focus on any one part of the sky because they are gone almost as quick as they appear. It was kind of a rush when I saw the first really bright one. I'll probably go back out after midnight and see what's up.

Took the oldest (10y/o) out to the back porch around 1:15am or so, we laid out there for about 20 mins, saw maybe 6 or 7 but there was a few clouds rolling (SLLLLLLLOWLY) through so that was a bummer, (and she got tired of the clouds lol)

normally the later the better, IF I'm still up about 3am or 4am I'm going to go out and check, if there is better action then at 1am I'll wake up the kid and drag her out to the porch lol.

I've been outside a couple times looking, but it's overcast and sprinkling here and I don't think I'll get a chance before I go to bed.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 08-12-2010 11:30 PM

Spotted a few light ones off the deck, but there's some bad light pollution here. Was planning on a midnight mountain hike which would have been great, but spent the day cleaning, and the wind is high, so i bailed last minute. Will probably head out again a little later in the night when things are supposed to pick up. Hopefully thw wind dies down a bit.

I was outside with my dog, to take him to the washroom and I saw one after looking in the sky for 5 seconds. It's super clear out where I am, in the area surrounding Vancouver , B.C

Didn't care enough to continue watching, feels weird to do it alone, haha

Did you feel like a dirty old perve? A dogger? :winkwink:

You shouldnt worry about what others think of you.... You were only trying to see the meteors mate. I love looking at the night sky. I do it quite a bit as its very relaxing.

Lokking forward to someone posting pics of the shower :2 cents:

its visible all over the world, better in the northern hemisphere. if anyone missed it last night there will be plenty more tonight :thumbsup

kristin 08-13-2010 12:37 PM

Saw a few good ones - I dozed off under the stars, that was nice. :)

Scott McD 08-13-2010 01:07 PM

After watching it on the news yesterday saying that it was gonna happen, i went to bed last night and forgot all about it. I wouldn't have bothered normally but where we are, they predicted we would have some of the best views of it, with nice clear skies. Dammit!

gmr324 08-13-2010 01:10 PM

gotta stay up for this one - was too damn cloudy in Boston last night to see them - have to travel to a suburban beach where there's no light pollution

JFK 08-13-2010 01:21 PM
