Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT - News), which registered $405 billion in sales last year and is the largest retailer in the world, sold more bananas than any other single item.

bananas are sold by the lb, not by the bunch, you can buy 1 banana if you wish

Would never have guessed bananas but thinking about it now I wouldn't really have had a clue what to guess would be the number 1 item sold.

That is most likely using the numbers from the world market and in Latin countries they sell more than in the US.

Bananas or milk would have been my guess. That's pretty much all my kids care to eat most days.
