Do you think the people at Def Jam Records...

Are regretting dropping Lady Gaga.
Someone there is still getting fired. She is a money making machine.

Germanotta had initially signed with Def Jam Recordings at the age of 19, although she was dropped by the label after only three months.

That must suck to drop someone then see them blow up so big.
I guess everything is meant to happen for a reason.

When her and Akon performed at our club in LA, I thought for sure she was going to be a one hit wonder. They must have thought the same thing.

You just never know!

yeah that's a common story in the record biz

who's to say that with def jam the songs would have come out the same? the records would have been promoted in the same fashion? she'd wear the same outrageous outfits? etc etc....

akon caught lightning in a bottle

spunky99 08-16-2010 10:31 AM

quite often artists bounce from label to label until they have a hit

This is true, they probably had a different plan for her and that didn't work out.

Labels are pretty smart on their contracts. For most new artists, they usually have full control, in this case, she is somewhat talented since she writes her own music and all. A lot of artist don't.

sort of on topic, i hung out with Russell Simmons two years back at a Farm Sanctuary Gala thing. he's pretty into the vegan action now. it sort of struck me as a little weird.

Everything is good as long as she is in one piece.
Her fans did not drop her when she jumped into the crowd.

trevesty 08-16-2010 11:38 AM

I have a friend who recently signed with Def Jam.. heh.

Yeah he does. :1orglaugh

jimmy-3-way 08-16-2010 12:15 PM

Everything is good as long as keeps doing what he does.
Contrary to popular belief a payroll is not actually a roll at all.

mynameisjim 08-16-2010 12:23 PM

That's common with a lot of things. How many baseball players get signed by one team, then traded for nothing and go on to have a great career?

A lot of it is timing. When Lady Gaga was signed maybe the market wasn't right for her. There was a glut of white female pop stars a little while ago, then suddenly there were none. That's when Lady Gaga was able to get famous.
