I do not mind it so much when it's a simple word. But when it gets into these long words, punctuation and so on. Then it really gets to be a hassle.

Is that recaptcha? Only one of the words is known, the other is intended to be "judged" by multiple humans. So it's possible they're not even aware it's a foreign word.

recaptcha has gone to alot of these strange scanned passages from foreign text lately. it's pretty easy to pick the "unknown" dud word. i don't even fill it in. or i fill it with obscenities for shits and giggles...

Just native bots living in the US.

No, it's not an umlaut.
It's one of three extra characters found in the Germanic language, mostly use up in the Scandinavian, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The three letters are å Å, ä Ä and ö Ö, then the Germans have a special symbol for double S and so on. It's still the alphabet, just a little different and with more letters. :)

Most of time on recaptcha, you just type the "positive" word, word that is easier to read it.
