Kinda gross but interesting story

So several months ago I wake up in the morning and notice that my left leg (lower from ankle to mid shin) is really red, sore and warm to the touch, almost hot like my leg had a fever. I checked it out for a few minutes and moved on with my day

It stayed that way for a couple of days and then a blister appeared... and got bigger. It grew to about the size of half of a golf ball and if air blew across it the thing stung like hell. The USMC taught me how to deal with blisters {WARNING SEVERE STUPIDITY AHEAD).... I popped that bad boy, drenched it in peroxide and decided to let it dry out.

Ever since then I had basically a huge, infected hole in my leg (grossness) that oozed puss continuously and was extremely sensitive to the touch, made sleeping pretty damned difficult I can tell you that not to mention the several fevers I had I think because of the infection.

My wife encouraged me (vigorously) to visit the doctor but no insurance and a pretty strong stubborn streak made me say "it'll get better on its own, if it gets worse I'll go" I wasn't going to go unless I smell gangrene I tell ya what. I told her it was probably a spider bite, most likely a brown recluse and I would be fine. I based this diagnosis on the fact that............I guessed.

Today while looking something up I came across an image of a recluse bit and I have to tell you, it is not as gross looking as mine was... but they probably didn't exercise my genius of popping things I had no business popping

End of the story, the thing is almost 100% healed now, took more than a few months, was very painful BUT, I was right. There was nothing the doctor could have done.

I was bitten in bed....now I have phantom things biting me all the time, talk about paranoid LOL

beware of spiders

It is not skin cancer, so it will heal within time.

JuicyAds2 08-17-2010 03:18 PM

My FAVORITE part of that story was how you highlighted all the nastiest parts! LOL. Glad you're okay, I thought those were deadly bites, but I just have a fear that all spider bites are deadly!

gmr324 08-17-2010 03:46 PM

Glad to hear it healed on its own. I have a spider phobia myself.

you can't even afford oxiclean for the wound?

Yup, like you and JuicyAds2 I have always had a fear of spiders. I screech like a little girl when I see them. ironic how I had to wait to be in my 40s before I got bitten :)

Yes RIP BjjB. He had other complications as well though, but the spider bite was the last straw. I had planned on heading up for a day to help him out with whatever he needed, but before I got the chance he passed away. Very sad. He was a couple hours away from me.

The image I posted is from one of those med type sites but I can tell you that mine looked 100 times worse than that. It looked like that after it had healed for at least 3 months. I had thought at the time I might post pictures of spot (we nicknamed the wound 'spot') but then I thought if someone else had posted something that disgusting looking I would have gotten offended so I restrained myself :1orglaugh

Thats sad... peace to BjjB.
The brown recluse bite is not usually fatal except to the very young, the very old and the very sick. My condolences to the loss of yours and Ma Dalton's friend

My husband is always telling me to kill any spider I see in the house, but I feel bad doing it because they eat mosquitoes, and I really hate mosquitoes :P
also, I kind of find spiders to be good animals.

Just yesterday I threw a small tarantula over the wall while my husband cursed me and my loins (not that bad, but it sounded good to say that) and insisted that the thing will come back and bite our kid. Our house is in the outskirts of town and we have a big yard filled with fruit trees, so no matter what we'll always have bugs :P

But it made me feel good and fair to do so.

Now I'm wondering if I did the right thing, ha!
