It has been reported that the last combat

...unit in Iraq is on its way home. About 50,000 troops will remain in Iraq until next year...then there will be additional draw downs.

theking 08-18-2010 04:51 PM

I should have said that they may be on their way home...as presently they have been withdrawn from Iraq into Kuwaite.

no no... the anti obamians will say that he promised every last troop would be home...

no matter who is in office, 50% of the people will always be unhappy... :2 cents:

Great. Im glad to see Bush's war was a success. We only need to keep 50k troops there forever. :disgust

How about we start bringing them home from Afghanistan now.

Anyone done the math to see the exact number of troops that have gone home and not just shuffled numbers between Iraq and Afghanistan?

Actually it is not President Obama that is responsible for the withdrawal...it is being done via an agreement that President Bush made with the Iraqi government. President Obama is simply following through with the agreement a former President made...which is not uncommon.

The bulk of...if not all of...the remaining 50,000 are due to be withdrawn next year...via the agreement President Bush made with the Iraqi government.

That is obviously a lie since republicans have ALWAYS been against specific dates for leaving combat areas. So therefore it would be IMPOSSIBLE for Bush to have agreed to leave Iraq by a specific date.

Well President Obama has ordered an additional thirty thousand to Afghanistan since his time in office...though I do not think that all of the thirty thousand have been deployed at this point in time...and it is my understanding that a draw down of troops in Afghanistan is scheduled to begin next year...based upon conditions on the ground.

New deals are always struck. Like always I will believe it when I see it.

I am happy we are "bring our troops home". But we still have troops based in less hostile places than Iraq.

It is fact...and Republicans...as do Democrats...speak from both sides of their mouth.

I would personally assume that X number of troops will be in Iraq as historically we do not usually...totally...withdraw troops once they are inserted...but it has happened...and may with Iraq...though my confidence level is high that a combat force of some strength will remain in Kuwaite...for many years to come.

Nope, the war is Bush's fault and the withdrawal is all Obama! (lol liberals)

Don't argue with GatorB. He's still stuck in elementary school mode.

Yesterday I was in my local grocery store talking to one of the women that works there. she is in her 70's and has worked at this place for over 10 years. Everyone in town knows her. As we were talking a young guy came up to her and she smiled. She introduced me to him. He was stopping in to say goodbye to her. He is shipping out to Afghanistan in a couple of days so he was scrambling to get things done. He tells us he is rushing to get some stuff into storage in his parents garage and then tomorrow he is going to marry his girlfriend. They are just going to courthouse and making it legal that way if anything happens to him she is taken care of to some degree.

The guy is 20 years old and he is making plans for possibly dying in the next year. . . Saddened the hell out of me.

We need to leave Afghanistan. We can't win there. Nobody has won there. We are just wasting lives, money and time.

I do not wish to make any kind of partisan statement about this.

I only want to extend my gratitude to the brave men and women of our Armed Services who served this country honorably, and to their families and loved ones, who sacrificed so much on behalf of this country.

Thank you...

It is possible...but I doubt it. The Iraqi government now has a large police force and military and wants to handle their own affairs.

Sure, they won't have any problems with that....
