Roger Clemens indicted for perjury!
 

WASHINGTON (AP)?A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens for allegedly lying to Congress about using steroids.

Clemens faces charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury.

The former Major League baseball pitcher and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath at a 2008 hearing before a House committee and contradicted each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances.

I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that doing this indemnifies you against a charge of perjury....

What a waste of tax payer money. Who cares if he did Steroids? I realize lying under oath is a bad thing... But lying about using steroids is like my kids lying to me about brushing their teeth -- It's only gonna affect them in the long term!

Did he not personally throw the pitches? Did someone else help him with his accuracy? I don't think Steroids made him throw a more accurate strike.

95% of baseball was probably doing roids. wonder why it took so long for them to realize he lied to them. lol

it is a waste of money. MLB just needs to police it's game and be strict with substance abuse and not worry about the players union.

While I agree that there are more important issues, lying under oath undermines our judicial system, and should not go unpunished.

The larger message to me is about steroid abuse. It is unfair to clean players whenever anyone gains an unfair advantage by using illegal drugs. Likewise, if high profile players that are idolized by young people are allowed to abuse drugs and flaunt it to the system, the use of these rather dangerous drugs may spread.

They should have never put Roger on the stand in the first place, or anyone else on this issue for that matter. This is a major league baseball issue not something the government should intervene in. Since they did intervene and since he did perjure himself theres not much else that can be done at this point... lying to a grand jury is not something that should be taken lightly.

all my athletic heroes of the past are on steroids or are criminals of some sort... pretty fucking sad... nobody is perfect but damn....

So first they wasted tax dollars and time "investigating" steroids in baseball.

The people going to jail should be the fucking Congress for wasting our money doing something that has abso-fucking-lute-ly NOTHING to do with governing the country.

I feel like the country I grew up in has become an international joke.

Who is ROger Clemens and why should I give a damn?

Exactly my perspective on this. They can't let this slide even if it's a small issue because it undermines the justice system and they don't want to appear to let people slide on lying in court, especially if it's someone who did so in the public eye.

That said, it should have never been anywhere near the government. Steroids are bad but it's not like you're going to stop all athletes from taking them no matter what you do - much like the mass public and pot.

Meanwhile Congress, what about the immigration issue?

I've been taking testosterone for years now. And I'm now seeing television ads for it too. Apparently when a "civilian" guy starts seeing his testosterone decline with age, the best thing he can do phsyically is start using testosterone. And of course everyone's physiology is different. Some guys need it as early as their late 20's. Some guys don't need it until their 40.

But it's a GOOD thing for all men. And also if you are in the hospital and you have suffered a traumatic accident with broken bones and wasted muscle tissue...they pump you with steroids to get you strong again.

And people with HIV/AIDS and cancer who have wasted away in size and gotten extremely weak which could lead to death...they put them on steroids to make them strong and healthy.

So to recap: According to the American Medical Association...who were AGAINST making steroids illegal and congress went ahead and did it anyway....steroids, when used in moderation, can make people healthy. UNLESS you are an athlete...because then they magically can kill you...even though there has never been one death that can absolutely be linked to steroid use (unlike the millions of deaths from cigarettes, alcohol, being out of shape and fat, and a million other things).

Yeah, this all makes sense... NOT!
