Right around the corner folks.

Just another fear tactic by Faux News so Glenn Beck can sell more shitty quality gold.

Fucking idiots. So they don't really happen every 45 to 144 years, they actually happen every 45 to X years since it's now been over 150. It's probably just a matter of the idiot reporter at Fox News leaving out the word "average." They sure do like to twist facts, especially when they can use them to scare people.

An Earthquake is baby stuff compared to what is coming

Wrong. The big one has been coming since before any of us were born. It has nothing to do with Fox News or anyone else. It is a given . . . it must also be a slow news day.

fatfoo 08-21-2010 06:30 PM

That's not very frequent. These earthquakes are quite rare.

Indeed, it is an inevitable eventuality and everyone living in California knows it, so what is the point of reporting something that is common knowledge and absolutely inevitable? To raise awareness? I call BS on that! When an earthquake occurs panic takes over and all hell breaks lose regardless of whether or not people have been preparing for it. Sure some try keep calm and collected but the reaction I've seen from most folks is instant panic.

Don't get me wrong tho, I am not saying that ALL networks which report on "ball-park-estimates" about expected natural disasters do so because of some ulterior motive, however it is hard to overlook the pattern certain networks exhibit by pursuing this particular angle.

There are quite a few "companies" I can think of which seem to be able to profit during times of fear and uncertainty; I am sure Glenn Beck can agree with me on this one :winkwink:

Seems to happen quite often with that particular network.

Actually, awareness needs to be made and on a regular basis. When it hits you are going to need to be able to take care of yourself for three days. What percentage of your friends do you think are equipped to do that? Are you? Do you have food, water, battery, transistor radio, light, rain gear?

Agreed... and it is very important to teach the kids what to do and what to expect.

Do I have the materials ready for such event? YES! - I actually like to call it "Living in California 101" Can I speak for my friends? NO!

Here is how I see it: If "grown-ups" who have been living for a while in SoCal don't have their stuff ready, do you think they'll all of the sudden become more conscious about the consequences by listening or reading such reports? Sure! maybe for a few seconds or until they change the channel. The fact of the matter is that irresponsible and unprepared people won't all of the sudden become responsible and prepared if someone tells them to. It takes discipline which is something they either learned or didn't learn by the time they reached adulthood.

Agreed, children need to be taught about these things. But adults who have been living here their whole lives? .. if they have to.....my immediate response is a resounding "WTF?"

I think you are being rather naive if you think most people are prepared to take care of themselves for three days. Just my opinion, of course.

grumpy 08-22-2010 01:34 AM

its foxnews so it must be true

cambaby 08-22-2010 01:40 AM

You guys act like the SOURCE of the report is Fox news. I purposely posted a Fox news link because I knew it would flush out the blind sheep, funny thing is this "report" came out and hundreds of news organizations picked it up and reported it. LOL, trolled bitches.

Just like I think it is naive to think that grown-ups will learn to be responsible if someone on TV tells them to. Just my opinion, of course.

BTW, I never said or implied that most people are prepared to take care of themselves for three days.

scarlettcontent 08-22-2010 03:16 AM

2012 maybe the next big one

Good point baddog. not sure if they make this public knowledge in cali but here in NY they do for the fear of a big hurricane hitting.

Fox should be stopped from being able to call itself a "News" orginization.

No, it's actually true, and geologists have been saying this for years now.

Never read that article, because I just don't have the time for Foxs. I can't remember the exact numbers, but geologists have been saying the Cascadia fault line is ready for another good earthquake. I think it's every 50 - 70 years, they get a good 7 - 8 recter jolt, and about every 300 - 500 years they get a good 9 recter jolt.

The fault line is due to both, so it just depends on which one happens. Hopefully the former to let off some tension, then we can continue on with our merry little lives.

bronco67 08-22-2010 07:13 PM

So it could be 50 minutes, or 50 years from now.

Slutboat 08-22-2010 07:13 PM

this guy is classic haha he's licking his chops just hoping his God will hit Cali with a huge quake and kill as many liberals as possible...

Yeah... geologists are just going off the data they have, and making the best predictions they can. They have no idea when the earth is going to get pissed off, and have a fart.

They're just doing their job. Earthquakes are (I think) the most unpredictable natural disaster there is. That's why tsuanmi warnings don't go off days before hand. They go off minutes / hours after the earthquake is registered, with sirens all over the coastlines blaring, etc.
