how many people here believe that the govt. as a whole is the problem and not just the democrats or the republicans?

if you feel that govt as a whole is the problem, what do you think is the solution?

As far as I am concerned, the Republicrats are really just two sides of the same coin...endlessly dividing people on sideshow social issues, while their actions primarily reflect the agenda of the rich ruling elite whom they really both serve.

What I've never understood, is that whenever the US gets involved in nation building (Japan, Germany, Philippines, Israel, Korea, Panama, Iraq, etc), we help establish a parliamentary form of government (either unicameral or bicameral), even though we have a totally different (and quite dysfunctional) form of government.

Why is that?

In my humble opinion, elections should be publicly funded, with short election cycles, filled with plenty of televised debates, representing a variety of thought, not just those of the two dominant and symbiotic parties (i.e., the Libertarian Party. the Green Party. etc should be allowed to voice their alternative views about government - as long as they can get signatures of 5% of the voters - that should both give them a voice and representation, if they can prove through the ballot box that they have earned it under a more fair and less corrupt election system).

I hope that proportional representation through a parliamentary system will eventually be adopted once an enlightened voting public is educated about the parliamentary system (which our leaders seem to think is good for everyone but us), since it appears to work well for most of the countries of the world, and is currently the most popular system of government in the world.

i would also like to see politicians voting records made public on the net and show what ideals they preached when they ran versus how they vote once elected...

people quickly forget the promises that were made when politicians campaign and are probably unaware how often an elected official changes their stances after being elected.

the peoples interests are often quickly forgotten once in office and the status quo and the washington way of business as usual (corporate influence and the good ole boy network) kicks in.... :2 cents:

If you think the government at whole is a problem, you are NOT a Democrat.

I think you better re-evaluate what your political and social beliefs are because Democrats WANT, LIKE and NEED a big government to protect them and take care of their basic needs.

Hate to break it to you but you are probably a political conservative or libertarian in general, and you certainly can have liberal social views(like most of us here).

i consider myself an independent.. i have some democratic views, but as a business person i also agree with some of the republican views..

i do not believe in big govt, but i also dont believe in a small expensive govt.

i do believe in social programs, but i also believe that there is a huge difference between a handout and a hand up..

i also believe that there should be strict term limits in any govt position.

i believe that the electoral college should be abolished in favor of popular vote.

i believe that any politician found guilty of corruption should be sentenced to life in prison.

i believe that lobbyists should be abolished and that corporations are capped on campaign contributions.

i can go on for days, but at the end of the day i dont believe that any of these things will happen in my lifetime...

It's all going to go up in flames one way or another.

I believe all of that, as I think most sane people would. I dont think its a lost cause tho, I "hope" we can "change" it one day.
