$8M Worth of Pot Plants Seized in Humboldt County
Authorities in Humboldt County said they seized $8 million worth of marijuana plants after a secret cultivation area was discovered on the Santa Rosa Range, near Orovada.
Undersheriff Curtiss Kull said investigators were tipped to the marijuana grow site on Monday after a Reno man reported he and his son were prevented from further hunting on the isolated west range by three men. Authorities? suspicions were raised that the men could have been involved in an illegal marijuana grow.
Officials said marijuana growers have become increasingly more violent and confrontational in an effort to protect their crops.
So, the sheriff?s office coordinated a team of regional law enforcement to help them search the area, Kull said. The Washoe County Sheriff?s helicopter, RAVEN, located a covered camp near where the family was confronted.
Friday, the total count of plants seized were 4,020, Kull said.
No arrests have been made.
