California gets scarier
Government agents can sneak onto your property in the middle of the night, put a GPS device on the bottom of your car and keep track of everywhere you go. This doesn't violate your Fourth Amendment rights, because you do not have any reasonable expectation of privacy in your own driveway ? and no reasonable expectation that the government isn't tracking your movements.
That is the bizarre ? and scary ? rule that now applies in California and eight other Western states. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which covers this vast jurisdiction, recently decided the government can monitor you in this way virtually anytime it wants ? with no need for a search warrant. haha... next paragraph. Wow.
It is a dangerous decision — one that, as the dissenting judges warned, could turn America into the sort of totalitarian state imagined by George Orwell. It is particularly offensive because the judges added insult to injury with some shocking class bias: the little personal privacy that still exists, the court suggested, should belong mainly to the rich. |
Oh shit that is scary! :(
|
Although it is indeed scary I don't care if they know where I am I am not doing anything wrong.
|
I'm sure they can track you by your cell phone

On Star, et al

Oh it's more than obvious they can track you in different ways, but what does that have to do with this? Are you in favor of the ruling?

Taking it a step further with some of your comments about what they can do already anyway, then it stands to reason you don't expect you have any right to privacy.
When did this happen? |
I have a friend that is a LA paparazz and he has been putting GPS units on stars cars for a few years. At 2 am he pulls out the laptop and sees whose up to no good.
|
That's police tech. The FEDS just listen into your conversation from a helicopter 5 miles high.
|

I personally don't give a rats ass about the GPS usage, whether it's a planted device or my cell. If it's my cell integrated GPS and I dial 911 then I WANT them to know my geo location.
If you really want to worry about something then be concerned about the infrared heat sensors that nearly every fire department has. Most cities, towns, communities have NO restriction on their use. So the local patrolmen can pop by the fire station and request a ride-a-long at any time. |
You guys are right. Please give us more Big Government! Maybe Obama will come up with some strong controls and powers, and give us less privacy still, and no one will complain about it. Not because he is black anyway. :) When I go to bed I will say my prayers for God to especially protect the rich people.
|
When I hire some (50) security guards they'll be trained to shoot anyone on my property. Bonus if it's a pig.
|
Do your part. Shoot your local congressman, governor, or judge...
|
Isn't the 9th circuit the same one that legalized gay marriage in SF and did a whole bunch of other pretty liberal stuff in the past? It shocked me to see they were the ones that came up with this shit.

When Crazy Horse Too in Vegas got busted a few years ago, OnStar was used to gather evidence. The goverment was remotely activating OnStar and recording all the conversations they had in their vehicles.
|
if those fools wanna follow you, they're gonna follow you.
one way or another, those fuckers are going to know where that car goes if that's what they feel like doing that week. I'd rather they do it with as few of my tax dollars as possible. That being said, I'm sure that those GPS whatsidoddles are cheaper that keeping a helicopter in the air for the time it would take to do the same job. |

I have a problem with allowing the government agent to enter private property w/o warrant or emergency circumstance.
But putting a GPS on a car and following it..I do not have a problem with that. There is no expectation of privacy on a GOVERNMENT funded public road. If you want privacy when driving a car, drive on a PRIVATE road. |
America is screwed :D

you need to keep your car in the garage!

California judges are fucking loons.

it's not like they would even need to plant anything on your car, unless you drive through a lot of tunnels, can't they track you quite easily via a satellite imaging?

Satellite real time would NOT be used on most common criminals |
Im glad the only judge that objected to this ruling was THE CONSERVATIVE JUDGE, can I get an Amen?!

So does that mean we can start putting GPS devices on the governor's, senator's congressman's, city council cars?

I'm kind of appalled that there is anyone who thinks this is okay.
With a warrant, given for probable cause, I am all in favor of my local PD having the best technology in existence. Without a warrant and for no particular reason, actually, yes, I do think I have reasonable expectation of privacy. Irritates me when people take photos or video of me when my car is moving on Hollywood Blvd. |

this shit was being put in place since reagan... george sr ran the cia and when he was vp the wheels were put in motion because regan let him do whatever he wanted to on that end... 911 set in motion a chain of events that will continue to strip americans of their privacy until the end of man... so, dont be an idiot and jump on the it's all obamas fault train.. . |
Good concerns! Let's get the ACLU on this! But I bet you righty fear mongering motherfuckers hate the ACLU because FAUX News and your King Rush Limbaugh tells you to dontcha?
|
Any privacy people still think they have in 2010 is just an illusion. Privacy has been gone for years.

Actually, I'll just live happily every after, anonymously in Thailand. Suits me just fine. :thumbsup |
I'll bet if I needed to care about such a thing, I could buy a device that would tell me if there was a tracking device on my car. It won't matter soon anyhow - they will have little drone planes that can track anyone. Cheaper to operate than helicopters and they take less gas.
