Gun Owners (USA)

Whats the process in USA to get a gun, can you just walk into a 7-11 (AaronM said something about this in his gun video) or Walmart and get a gun without a permit?

I know here in Canada, you cant you have to have the permit first and its not easy.

Amputate Your Head 08-29-2010 09:40 AM

go to a gun show and buy one.

AaronM 08-29-2010 09:42 AM

No permit required for most guns in most of the US. Walmart and Sevy don't sell them.

cambaby 08-29-2010 09:45 AM

Shotguns can be bought over the counter no questions asked, thank God.

Vendzilla 08-29-2010 09:48 AM

Brady law requires a wait after purchase, time to cool down, then state to state, some make you take a class, unless you have a dd214 from the service
Carry permits vary from county to county in California, in my county, it's a 12 hour class and you have to prove you can shoot the gun

What type of Gun? Handgun, Rifle, shotgun?

Gun Shows you can get weapons the same day, I believe they still do call for a Back Ground Check, but not 100% sure on that.

Gun stores, you can get Rifles or Shotguns the with a simple form they call in and do a quick back ground check on you. You only need to be 18.

Walmart here sells Rifles and Shotguns, again with a quick form and a phone call if approved, it takes about 10 minutes.

Handguns, I am not sure on, except you must be 21. Last time I purchased one there was a 3 or 5 day wait.

All my answers are based from Kansas.

Interesting.

Not that I frequent Walmart but I've been to several of them in 3 different states and never seen anything more than BB and paintball guns. I know they do sell ammo though.

The Brady Bill requires that any person purchasing a handgungun from a licensed dealer to go through a background check. This includes retail locations, Internet stores, and gun shows. This is Federal law.

Different states, counties, etc...may impose additional restrictions such as waiting periods and so forth.

I live in the US where Federal Law requires you to fill out a form. That form asks you several questions.

If you bought a shotgun from Gander Mountain and you didn't do this then both you and Gander Mountain have violated Federal law.

Not Shotguns, states make their own laws on what are considered "firearms". In Michigan a firearm is less than 30 inches or higher than a certain caliber(and I dont have that number off hand) but your basic shotgun is NOT considered a firearm in the state of Michigan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_H...Prevention_Act

Id move out of whatever police state you are in buddy.

I will admit that I edited that part as it was primarily discussing Brady which is a handgun law. However, a 4473 is still required for Shotguns.

This is the only state I have seen them in that I can remember!
All of our walmarts offered them, but it seems the "bad" parts of town, walmarts, no longer sell them here.

Maybe, instead of acting like an ignorant asshole, you should take a little time to discover who you are talking to and what my stance on guns is in the first place. :2 cents:

I dont give a fuck what stance you have on guns or who the fuck you are, I know for a FACT that I can and have purchased shotguns in this state with no license, no "background check" nothing I just pay for it with cash and walk out. Does this anger you?

Move to a different state because wherever you live if you gotta jump through hoops to get a fucking shotgun you are in a police state.

What about the gun in that video you posted?

How long of a wait did you have to have, I take it 7-11 doesnt sell guns ;)

GotGauge 08-29-2010 10:46 AM

Cambaby, What state, Town, Store is that?

DWB 08-29-2010 10:47 AM

Don't know what kind of gun you are getting, but if it's for home protection, just pick up good old Mossberg 500 shotgun and turn it into a tactical weapon, like this one.

When I bought my last shotgun in the USA (several years ago), they just sold it to me and out I walked.

You do understand the difference between state and Federal law don't you?

The only person here who appears to be angry is you.

Let's take this back up to the top....

You said:

"Shotguns can be bought over the counter no questions asked, thank God."

FACT: Federal Law requires an FFL holder to fill out a form 4473 for ANY gun sold/transferred. 4473 has MANY questions on the form.

What part of this are you having difficulty following?

Depends on which video you are referring to.

The last video was basically an M-16 with a short barrel and a suppressor. That takes 3 different tax stamps which each have background checks. You can read a Little about NFA items here.

I've seen some NFA things come back in about 2 months and others up to 6.

Many of the ex felons rights were restored back when Obama was being elected. (Almost all non violent offenders)
Thus was needed for many minority votes to win the pre-planned election.

So the Brady bill is now just a wash.

AaromM you sound so much like cop its not even funny. Find out more facts before you make an attempt to speak of facts.

I must apologize to Fris for hijacking his thread I hope you get the answers you need dude, here in Michigan its pretty laid back purchasing firearms, since you are close in Canada there you probably could get what you wanted if you went to a private show here without too much trouble. Hell most of the people there would help you get what you needed.

Most cops, just like most GFY'ers, don't know shit about gun laws. They just think they do.
