Hands down: The BEST phone on the market...
...is the HTC EVO 4G. I just bought it today.
I reviewed every single smartphone on the market currently (at ATT, Verizon, Tmobile and Sprint), including the Samsung Epic which was just released yesterday. The EVO is blazing fast, it's got a 4.3" gorgeous screen, 720p video recording, HDMI out, a bazillion apps, I can do all my technical work on it easily (ssh/ftp/remote desktop/IM, etc) and with the 3500mAh battery I'm getting, I'll be able to run it on full burn for over a day. I'm pretty stoked! Also, the fact that the "everything" plan on Sprint is $80/mo, compared to $100 on Tmobile and over $100 on Verizon or ATT. http://www-bgr-com.vimg.net/wp-conte...uto-14947.jpeg :pimp:pimp:pimp |
I used to have an HTC Touch HD and it was a piece of shit, waste of 1,000$ :disgust
|
What made you go for the Evo vs the Epic? Was it the slightly larger screen or some of the other features? The Evo of course has a 4.3" vs 4.0" screen but the Epic has a physical keyboard and better quality screen- Super Amoled vs LCD for the Evo. There are a handful of other differences as well including the UI being HTC Sense on the Evo vs MotoBlur on the Epic. And the Evo has also been upgraded to Android 2.2 now.
I really like my HTC Evo. I get so much use out of it for business and personal use. I purchased it release day on June 4th. But I am findiing it a little hard to get used to on screen text input. The order of the softkeys on the bottom are different on the Epic too Menu-Home-Back-Search on the Epic vs what I consider a more natural Home-Menu-Back-Search on the Evo. I have to go check the Epic out at Radio Shack or the Sprint store to make my own comparison. |
looks like a nice phone indeed :thumbsup
|
I was thinking about getting one to replace my iphone 3 gs. But when I played with it at the sprint store. It had two bar in the sprint store and it didnt seem very responsive.
|
wtf do you need hdmi out for on a cell phone? just curious

Better than iphone4?
|
I have a $19.99 TracFone that came with Double Minutes for Life, 150 pre-loaded minutes, and 150 days of service time, and it makes & receives calls just as good as that phone does. :rasta
|
I've been looking at the EVO myself. Good to hear another good review.
Do you know if it can back trace or not? |
like i really need to post this again hahahahahhaa
|
i've been considering an evo if i stepit up to a smartphone, but really my ghetto ass chocolate flip is doing the trick...

On a funnier note, this phone is actually straight up more powerful than my desktop PC was 8 years ago. :1orglaugh |
Looks good, I'll consider getting one :)
|
The big fail of the thread...
SPRINT SUCKS!!! |
Nice looking phone... !
I used to have one of the first HTC's back in 2005. It was a fat clunky thing that slid open to reveal a qwerty-ish keyboard. IT had a fugly screen and "crunched" when squeezed. the thing just couldn't wait to fall apart. HTC has come a long way for sure. |
I'm an iPhone lover but I gotta switch to the evo it makes my tiny iPhone look like a fossil

I gave mine to my girl, and picked up the Epic 4G.
The Epic is BY FAR the best smartphone on the market. |
iPhone>iTunes>PING = SkyNet
|
It's so funny how people are so passionate about a phone. Before cell phones, did people have arguments with strangers about which model landline they had?
Did they speak in absolutes? |
Does it have a slide out full time dedicated keyboard? No?

4G - it means this device supports new LTE network?

Go to 5:15 In referencing how many devices can use each of the respective phones as a mobile hotspot, he notes that the Epic can support 5 devices, whereas the EVO can support 8 devices. Coincidentally, the Epic happens to have a 5MP rear camera, and the EVO has an 8MP rear camera. He proceeds to explain that the reason for the 5 and 8 device mobile hotspot limit on each phone "has something to do with how many megapixels it has". I was thinking this whole time that this guy is definitely not cut out to be in front of a camera, based on the fact that he's tripping on his words, and constantly fidgeting with the phones, but after hearing that I'm pretty convinced that he's a moron. Did I miss something here? |
looks really nice, very cool

Both phones are awesome. I just thought I could do without the keyboard, when I really couldn't. |

Looks great, but curious to know with the Epic if are you able to sync your Outlook contacts and calendars directly via the USB connection? On a previous Samsung phone, it forced you to sync this information up to Google and then back down to your phone from Google. :(
|
For me it is all about the apps... I will stick with my iphone

I have had my Evo since the day it came out and love it. Not one thing I can find to complain about. The video is so good I don't even use my dedicated video recorder any more. Tons of apps for anything you can think of and of course the nice big gorgeous screen. |
The phone is the balls however the battery sucks...
4 hours at best according to one negro and one white at 2 different stores. I was skeptical when the negro told me, but after hearing from the white, i now believe it to be fact. . |

I felt the exact same way about the physical keyboard. But, to my great astonishment, I'm already typing faster on this virtual keyboard! The whole reason I was looking at the Epic was for the keyboard, but now I'm thrilled that I sucked it up and got used to the virtual one - within 24 hours. :) |

Dont like sprint.. :(
|
how's the network though?
|
sprint's network is a FAIL, especially where you don't get 4G.
+ battery life on the EVO if a FAIL. bad reviews and bad battery life |
