Its always the little things with me. I'll rewrite a script 10 times before I figure out I forgot a period or something.

I'd bought a new doscis 3 modem and a new netgear router. Assumed I needed to portfward on the router so I could use remote desktop from my laptop to my main pc. Went to do that and it said the port was in use by the remote management client. I thought " oh..just turn on remote management.". Then i got error messages when trying to connect that essentially meant two clients were trying to use the port. Finally realized that " remote management" on Netgear means managing the router not the enabling RDP. Turned it off, forwarded the port I use and it worked again.

you're doing it wrong.

What's the right way?
