Those living in tropical environments, what is your defense against ants?
I hate ants. I mean I HATE them. If you live in a tropical area you probably know what I'm talking about.
We have ant chalk and some ant powder (they eat and take back to other ants) that we put out, don't leave food out or open containers of food open and seem to do ok, but I'm always looking for new ways to destroy these tiny fuckers. I've read you can pour motor oil around your house and that keeps them away as well but I have not tried that one yet. Oh, I also allow geckos to run about the place, they feast on them. However, red ant eggs are delicious. :thumbsup |
I hear cinnamon works, never tried it but some friends had an ant problem here a while ago, and they had cinnamon poured out all around their doors and windows and shit, which they claim worked for keeping them out. I dunno if that will work for your tropical ants though.

I use a lot of windex.

I actually collect them and test shit out on them to see what makes them stay away or die. Next up.... cinnamon. Thanks. Quote:

If u live in FL I highly recommend Hulett, they are more expensive, but I'm the only person I know that can leave a pizza on the floor and a sundae in the middle of the pizza overnight and not wake up with a pile of ants. 5 years using them and only had an ant problem once and they never even come in the house.

we had a bad ant problem, got dogs so I have to be careful what I use. Coffee grinds they hate the smell, ant problem solved.

Maybe try diatomaceous earth. You can put it pretty much anywhere because it's very safe. You could put a teaspoon of this stuff in a glass of water and drink it and it wouldn't hurt you. They actually add it to cattle feed to de-worm them.

2. Caulk every single little gap or other crevice where they can enter a room from (especially in the kitchen) 3. Put ant bait (looks like a putty dispensed from a syringe) near likely places they could enter a room. That should do very well for you. :) |
I have an exterminator come and do the 6 month treatment indoors and out and they have a special ant spray. also if you have one of those stores for do it yourself exterminating they supposedly have some industrial strength stuff that works really well.

i know exactly what you mean, and i never found a perfect solution. keeping all food and juice condiments etc on lockdown seems to work best. and definitely bring on the geckos.

I've bought every ant product I could find, the various powders and syringes and traps and everything, and those fuckers are constantly invading my house... Even right after a fresh cleaning, if a fly dies on a windowsill, the ants will be up there to it the fly.
Nowadays I have the best luck with Raid Max (the poison is supposed to last several weeks?) and just spraying the trails and entry points into the house every couple of days. |
|
i wonder if you can have ant eaters as pets?

Normally I use:
http://translate.google.com/translat...%3DMSIN-5ASD74 Small little boxes that attract ants. They go in, leave and two days laters there are 90% less ants. You have to put one (or two boxes) in the path that ants use daily. It does not work in the rain or with Farao Ants). |
i hear napalm works great
