US poverty on track to post record gain in 2009

The number of people in the U.S. who are in poverty is on track for a record increase on President Barack Obama's watch, with the ranks of working-age poor approaching 1960s levels that led to the national war on poverty.

Census figures for 2009 ? the recession-ravaged first year of the Democrat's presidency ? are to be released in the coming week, and demographers expect grim findings.

It's unfortunate timing for Obama and his party just seven weeks before important elections when control of Congress is at stake. The anticipated poverty rate increase ? from 13.2 percent to about 15 percent ? would be another blow to Democrats struggling to persuade voters to keep them in power.

You are a funny guy. When the right controls it all and nothing changes. Who are you going to complain about then ?

Where did I inject any opinion? it's a news article, one I copy and pasted as something interesting, but you see it as an attack on the Obama Administration, you're the funny guy

Its exactly what they want, to keep people depending on the government and voting for Democraps.

Are you telling us that big government is bad for the poor? But, I though Obama was a friend of the poor? Or, was he only friends with the union bosses? I forget.

Obama sure had alot of Wall Street fat cat donors to his campaign. Hmmm, maybe those high taxes and sluggish markets are encouraging the rich to hire fewer poor people.

Is it possible that all those social programs are actually bad for the poor?

Is it possible that Obama cares more about Hollywood and the political class than the poor? But I thought he was a "community organizer?" Maybe that means he was a "Marxist."

this is only the beginning and it has nothing to do with obama and everything to do with govt as a whole...

the middle class is dissolving and has been dissolving since the start of george bush jr's presidency...

the current economic recovery will take decades and the only thing that could stop that is a total reform of govt as we know it..

until people stop getting distracted by the little things that the media tells us we should be distracted by, we are on a path of a lot of pain and suffering as a country...

The economy sucks and everything that that implies is happening.

There's no debating that.

The only question is who's less likely to fail at fixing it.

I'm convinced that with more entitlements from the government, less people feel the need to improve themselves. I can't tell you how many times I was told I made too much to get into a program when I was just getting by but working a full time job. Or standing behind a family of Immigrants that had their basket full at the grocery store with food stamps.

The only time I ever was able to use a program that helped people from the government was a VA loan, and that I earned......
When I die, they will bury me for free.

The fat cats on wall street always hedge their bets. That's what they do.

The rest of your post is nonsense.

Maybe the reason that people are so easily distracted by trivial issues is because no one has yet presented a viable, convincing and - most importantly - doable solution to the problems you've presented.

The day that happens the voters will be on that platform like flies on shit.
