FBI Crime Statistics, 2005-09

Quote:

During 2009, violent crime nationwide declined for the third year in a row, with an estimated 5.3 percent drop from 2008 figures. Property crime continued to fall as well -- for a seventh straight year, according to the FBI .

The federal agency annually releases statistics on violent crimes like murder, rape and robbery and on property crimes such as burglary and vehicle theft. Not all agencies participate in the voluntary FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program and therefore are not reflected in the data.
Search the database to find crime rates for participating cities nationwide.

Yes, while violent crime continues to be on a decline, prison populations are still growing at record paces. War on drugs ftw!

Crisis, people can't afford guns anymore.

Actually, quite the opposite. Gun and ammo sales have gone through the roof starting in 2008.

This could be related to the fact that more houses are empty with the foreclosure rate and there isn't anything to steal.

Maybe prison population growing and crime dropping are connected... LOL :1orglaugh

We should release all of the people in prison for stupid drug convictions, I agree.
