The next anti-piracy step is....

Lawsuits for trademark infringement and trademark dilution. Get ready for an anti-piracy shitstorm! Pirates hiding outside the US are going to lose ALL their US traffic over this.

Real pirates are worse than online pirates. Have you ever been to a night club and the DJ says, "To all the pirates in the house..." It can be quite scary.

Seriously, fucking die.

In Holland there are serious laws about trademarks/copyright.
I had to pay 400 euro to a journalist when i lent 1 picture...

Kim Holland sued 123video.nl after they put 1 video on their site.
The provider had to give information about the uploader.
I can't find the outcome of the case, the proces recently started.

I think this is also illegal in Holland, it is forbidden to put links to illegal material:

Somehow I doubt that there will be a crimp in their business or an increase in yours.
People that use pirated porn will just find another source.
But, best of luck anyways.....

As far as I know, EU Countries have to follow the EUCD which is similar to DMCA. It provides safe harbour for hosts and such. As long as those torrents are user submitted and they remove them if requested it is legal I believe.

I'm no expert at all, but going after EUCD in europa is one hard nut to crack! The guidelines are extremely vague, and all the members of the EU can "edit and alter" the EUCD to their own likings.

One thing surely stands out:

"One limitation is obligatory: transient or incidental copying as part of a network transmission or legal use. Hence internet service providers are not liable for the data they transmit, even if it infringes copyright."

They sued 123video for 300.000 euro. They won't get that, that will be to much. But the provider had to give the information about the uploaders. I can't find information what they are doing now. Mininova, a bittorent linking site, is forbidden in Holland for linking to illegal torrents, http://www.anti-piracy.nl sued them. Now they are only linking to legal material. that viptorrents.nl can be stopped if yo sue them Robbie.

There was a photographer in Holland who made a picture of Johan Cruijf holding the Europa Cup 30 years ago. He got 400 guilders for that selling it to a newspaper. Now he has a lawyer who goes after people that put that picture on their site. He can make hundreds of thousands euro's sueing everyone. I know, i had to pay 400 euro's for 1 picture. Going to court is much more expensive than paying.

Go Steve... it's your birthday... go Steve... it's your birthday....

Countdown until Nathan comes in and says you don't know anything, you're wasting your time, he has a billion videos in his library, sends out more DMCAs than he gets (the fact that he gets them should say enough), don't you know who I am, blah, blah....

seeandsee 09-16-2010 05:43 AM

steve i understand that you are pissed and making almost no money, we can see that in our stats, but dont you think that better will be to put your energy to redesign and rewamping your sites instead of fighting almost lost fight? seriously, with all the respect, and i had renewed my lightspeed domain last week, your sites are so old man, nobody can buy it, your sites are the main problem that nobody is buying ... sorry man ... :2 cents:

Ethersync 09-16-2010 07:27 AM

Yes, the content protection retreat will be an interactive, 2 day exclusive event that includes opportunities to learn, discuss and create a unified strategy for these types of issues which are currently creating a very negative impact on our industry. we've got some high powered players on board already and I encourage anyone who wants to attend to hit me up personally.
