- working long term on the platform

You may convert better with free chats - but the girls won't be able to keep the guys for long.
Without free chat, indeed conversions MAY be 10% less - and not always... - but those clients that will sign up will stay with you and spend more because the girls will devote 100% of their time on them...

The girls put up with alot of shit in those free chat rooms, i can imagine they would have a much better time talking to members with credit only.

There is nothing wrong with Free Chat per se. It is a good feature to have. BUT having Free Chat for unregistered Guests and members that only registered for free with their email address and no credit card is a problem. The "beggars" are members that almost always do not spend money anyways. Sites that allow members to chat who have no intention of spending money are wasting bandwidth and needlessly pissing off models. They are also driving away good paying members who do not want to deal with all the chaos.

Supply vs demand, there's always gonna be models and sites that have free chat as well as those who show in free chat mode (mfc). If you think conversions would only be 10% less with no free chat mode, you're very wrong, try as much as 50% less. I know models would love for customers to just click on their image and go right into private chat mode and stay for 30 minutes, but those days are long gone unless we're talking about repeat customers. The bottom line for camgirls is if you're not willing to do it, someone else is and they're most likely going to be the one with the bigger paycheck at the end of the month.

I mostly agree with this and think this is where Leo is making a mistake at mfc by allowing so many "guests" to view the cams. I do however think that mfc's option to give model's control to disallow guests and basic free memberships the ability to chat solves this issue of unruly freeloaders. I think some of the bigger cam programs could also institute something like this where models could turn off chat for free registrations and when they attempt to chat make it so they have to register a cc.

chat sites are under a lot of competition, and sometimes this competition is under the models as well. LJ has so many models online, if you dont jump out in a original way you dont get the attention you were hoping for.

free chat is fine, it gets guys more interested... BUT, i think they should at least be forced to sign up for free membership at the least to chat in the rooms... no reason to let guys just wander into the rooms and start typing away without at least getting a free membership. at least then they are tempted to fund their account.... but why buy the milk when the cow is free...

If a guy is a free member for more than 30 days without buying something delete his account.
