Quitting Smoking v.2 2010 edition...

Trying this kicking smoking thing again... bought a new ecig 4 hours ago, no cigarettes yet... Going from 2-3 packs a day over 10 year habit in the making... wish me luck :thumbsup:thumbsup

TheDoc 09-21-2010 05:44 AM

Good luck... use gum, candy, crack, toothpicks, dick, whatever it takes just don't stick another smoke in your mouth and you'll win. :thumbsup

TeenCat 09-21-2010 05:48 AM

ecig = cig. with ecig you will always have in mind that you are smoker. get total ill for few days, just stay in bed totally in heat and hallucinations, after 72hours it is only about your psychic. have luck! :thumbsup

Spunky 09-21-2010 05:57 AM

Forest 09-21-2010 05:58 AM

what he said...

ecigs have nicotine too - and this is what causes the addiction. you will still be addicted to cigarettes, you will just smell better

Zuzana Designs 09-21-2010 06:06 AM

I stopped smoking 4 years ago. Best thing I ever did! Mind over matter is what I used.

I used it pretty effectively before... trying a different brand this time. The first round and first refill pack I got are both high dosage nicotine... to help wean me off the "addictive" portion of my habit. I have picked up a few packs of the "hookah" flavors with no nicotine, and am looking forward to hopefully making these my permanent cigarette replacement.

The quitting thing is very difficult for me, as I don't really want to quit. I enjoy smoking, always have. I need to quit for my health, but I don't want to. I'm fully ok with a substitute. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Grapesoda 09-21-2010 06:10 AM

when I stopped smoking, didn't quit because I'm no quitter, I treated nicotine exactly like heroin and pulled my dose down over a period of a year. sorta like coming off methadone.

I just smoked like I always did, then went from regular cigs to mediums, to lights, to ultra lights... bought cartons as well. didn't fuck with myself by trying to monitor my smoking... changed 'doses' about every 3 months and then smoked the 'lightest' cigs I could find until I stopped completely.

SteveHardeman 09-21-2010 07:08 AM

Good luck man. I need to quit as well but it's so hard.

gmr324 09-21-2010 07:16 AM

good friend quit by going to one of those hypnosis seminars...worked like a charm and she never was even tempted to take another puff. she mentioned that they take you through a virtual tour of your lungs..good luck on quitting

I smoke since more than 15 years and I really wish to quit it one day. Lately I am thinking at every cig that I should quit ... always at the next one!
I have more than 25 cigs smoked today and I haven`t finished my plan! Fuck them!!!
I strongly believe there is no magic formula for it, but I am still hoping to see the light one day... hope I won`t die young because of them!

my father was a heavy smoker, he died at 57 from lung cancer

nevertheless i used to smoke for about 10-12 years, up to 2 packs a day on weekends. then i quit cold turkey and today it makes me feel sick when i stand in a cloud of cigarette smoke

Tom_PM 09-21-2010 09:10 AM

I smoked for 30 some years right up until my heart attack at 42.

So, good luck or goodbye. Those are the two options. Good luck.

Barry-xlovecam 09-21-2010 09:10 AM

Best of Luck

I stopped COLD TURKEY 9/27/2009, almost a year now. The first few weeks are hell, after that it gets easier ? best of luck.

e-cigarettes, nicotine gum and nicotine patches all contain nicotine.

Nicotine constricts the arteries and raises blood pressure with the resulting heart disease and stroke risk.

Be a shame to not die of lung or mouth cancers but keel over of a heart attack or stroke.

_Richard_ 09-21-2010 09:11 AM

best of luck man

kowalsky 09-21-2010 09:23 AM

Good luck man! I stoped somiking 5 years ago, life is much better without that shit!

CybersocketAndrea 09-21-2010 09:29 AM

If it takes an e-cig to stop smoking cigarettes, do it. ANYTHING is better than combustible carcinogens. Nicotine is addictive and technically a toxin, but it also has some cognitive benefits, and the cigarette addiction is much more than just from nicotine.

It worked for me. I quit cigarettes a year and a half ago, after a 25 year, pack and a half a day habit.

Vegas Ken 09-21-2010 09:49 AM

Go for it! You can do it!!!

HomerSimpson 09-21-2010 09:53 AM

ecigs are just "clean" cigs
since they don't have other toxins like regular cigs doo..
with them you just get the nicotine that stimulates your mind,
and all other the bad things are eliminated

so this is a way to go since it's healthier (or it should be),
but it will not lower your addiction to cigarettes (nicotine),
it may as well increase it!

LeRoy 09-21-2010 09:56 AM

Smoke weed :)

Brat 09-21-2010 09:57 AM

Good luck! I quit over 5 years ago and it was definitely the best thing I've ever done :)

Sorry to hear about your father, my grandfather died because of the same thing and I remember when we had a conversation about this, few years ago, I told him something like "we are going to die anyway". Now I think about that and I believe it would be better if I would kept my mouth and I would encouraged him at that time.
I am not afraid of dead, I am afraid of long sickness and slow dyeing, hurting people around me .... My boyfriend and my best friend really hate cigs. I feel guilty every time I am them and I smoke.
This thread makes me think better about it and I believe sooner than I think I will quit it. Any advices guys? :helpme
Last time when I was a step closer I read "Allen Carr`s book". It helped for 2-3 days

munki 09-22-2010 01:34 PM

Day 2... 4 cigarettes. Not as good as I wanted to be doing, but much better than 40... I need to get spare batteries for the ecig

cosis 09-22-2010 01:50 PM

i quit 2 1/2 years ago using chantix. was smoking 2packs+ per day

avm79 09-22-2010 01:55 PM

1 week without cigs... only gums. First days were difficult but now situation is better :winkwink:. Good luck for you (and me because nicotine monster may wait many weeks)!

StinkyPink 09-22-2010 02:06 PM

You can do it!

I quit like 5 months ago, COLD TURKEY!

I still want a cigarette, but I just say NO!

Good Luck to YOU!

Eyes_Without_A_Face 09-22-2010 02:20 PM

Nicorette patches worked for me - twice :)

Rochard 09-22-2010 02:28 PM

I used the "commit" pills. But then I was just hooked on them. It was okay for a while - a long while really -and I could switch from smoking to the pills instantly without an issue. On the pills I could go months without any desire for a smoke.

One day I finally got tired of the pills, tried the patch. Put the patch on, day one, worked fine. Put a new patch on day two, left it on for about a week, took it off, and that was that.

Haven't had a smoke since. No idea when my last smoke was and no desire to do it again.

itx 09-22-2010 02:51 PM

Good luck! :thumbsup

CybersocketAndrea 09-22-2010 03:12 PM

What e-cig are you using?

Godsmack 09-22-2010 03:13 PM

I quit a few years ago because my 5 your old son asked me why the father of my best friend died, i told him it was lung cancer because he smoked so much. Than my son asked me if i want to die, i replied, no offcoz not! he replied, so why are you smoking than?, you want me to be fatherless? he asked me to stop smoking which i did 2 days after and never touched a cigarette again. Finally i found some real motivation to be strong enough to stop smoking.

Isn't it great!? now if only i could quit with the booz....:smokin
